I see people only care about the trade in value of the old phone, but the real catch here is the 36 months lock in service with AT&T.

The cheapest monthly fee is 4GB plan which costs $50/month + tax and all applicable fees, the total will be around $65 per month. For entire 3 years of period you will be paying AT&T about $2340 in total. And you have to aware that this new phone will decrese its value in 3 years, most Samsung phones will decrese its value by almost half in just a year. But the AT&T monthly fee will not decrease along with the phone value.

These "deals" do not make any sense. You can buy the phone unlocked directly from samsung.com. Charge the purchase to a credit card that offers no interest financing for 12-months (or 18 if you have a really good card). You can pay for wireless service on a pre-paid plan from AT&T (they have a $300 upfront annual payment for 8GB of data per month). With tax that averages to about $25-$27 a month for your phone service. Over the course of three years you actually save yourself about $800 buying it unlocked (and you save even more if you DO have a phone to trade-in with Samsung).

If you can't find an old phone with a trade in value of $35, why not search eBay or CL for it? Playing $50 to $100 for a used phone is the next best option. Am I correct?

can we do the purchase/upgrade through another retail outlet (say bestbuy.com) instead of AT&T.com, and still get the $800 trade in credit if I take my Galaxy Note 4 to a local AT&T store?

The pre-order is not offering the 36-month payment plan for just upgrading on the AT&T site. It's requiring current subscribers to pay full retail.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything from anyone else. My 9 is worthless. So I did what you suggest with an IPhone for the 13 on Sprint.

I doubt they will match this deal.

Actually, My phone does have chips and crack on screen. I selected S7 - 32GB and answered "No" for "Device in good Condition" and "No" for "Is the screen functioning correctly and intact, free of any chips, bruised or dead pixels, and burn-in?" and I still get estimated value of $800 even though the market value is $17.50.

You can check yourself. When I try the same for S6 - the market value is $5 and not eligible for the $800. So it seems even an S7 with cracked screen is eligible for the $800.

Anything to get rid of the A32. I feel your pain. Mine took a quick dunk in the water and I hoped it was dead for good. Nope... works fine. Battery just won't hold a charge long even when it's turned off.
