I was looking at the HD hack and thinking about getting one, but I really can't justify buying one. All the use cases you mentioned could also easily be done with a grinder w/ cutoff wheel or a hackzall/sawzall, which both have numerous other uses, and which I already have.

I'm sure these band saws are useful for electricians and the like working on conduit all day, but I struggle to see why the average joe would want/need one. And that's coming from someone with a Milwaukee addiction - I'm up to like 25 tools
You're right it's not really for home owners. It's best use cases are for professionals to save time and make more money. Wouldn't really make sense for everyone. But I'd definitely place it in my top 25 Milwaukee tool list. Probably top 10.

This doesn't go on sale often, but it has been cheaper before:

The Milwaukee Band Saw and one hand recip is $289 in this sale. Last year on 7 Jun 2021, they had the 8.0 batt and the band saw for $289. (shortly after the price went up to $329) Only real price difference is the 8.0 batt retails for $200, where as the one hand recip retails for $160. So that is a pretty good deal, but it was technically cheaper with the 8.0 battery. I think it is more important on what your need are though (need a 8.0 battery or a one hand recip) No Idea if the 8.0 battery combo sale will ever come back though.

There was also the Makita XBP02Z for $236 (but that price was only after you hacked/returned the bundled impact driver for $92 to get that price.) I like the Makita band saw as well, but a few drawbacks: The Makita width is only 4 & 7/8" where as the Milwaukee measured 5 & 1/16"and it will accept a real piece of 5"x5" where as the Makita is slightly under 5". The Makita band saw weighed 12.1 Lbs, and the Milwaukee band saw was 13.5 Lbs. (These were all my own measurements with the products in hand, not from some review site) The Makita was brushed motors, where as the Milwaukee was brushless motors. If you ended up selling the one hand recip (or the 8.0 batt from last year's deal) for at least $53, then Milwaukee was cheaper too.

A deal as it's cheaper than it normally is, however, you can buy the deepcut bandsaw and the 4-1/2-5-1/2 fuel grinder combo for $20 more at $359. Or the hackable buy more save more promo, were if you buy over $499 of eligible M18 tools, you can save $150 on your purchase which brings the bandsaw price down to $288.47 according to my cart.
The grinder combo is now $319 today only.
