PS5 doesn't do any speed checks. This drive will work just fine. Hell, the maximum theoretical difference in load times is 5500/5000 = 10% difference. In the real world these drives are almost never saturated at their maximum speed, and The Verge found that even the slowest PCIE4 drive they could find performed exactly the same as the fastest. Please stop telling people drives under 5.5gbps won't work, because they will.

Sure and no game so far has required that, and if any game did it would need to be a pretty specific race condition where 5.5Gbps is absolutely necessary and 5.0Gbps is not enough to load something in time for it to show up on screen otherwise the game crashes or it results in some disadvantage in a multiplayer environment. I consider that pretty unlikely (just based on my instincts as a programmer) but even if that did happen you could just move it to the internal storage. For it to be a really crappy situation there'd need to be more than 667GB (size of the internal storage) worth of games that have that unlikely requirement, which makes the whole situation even less likely.

Sorry for the rant I've had too much coffee and feel strongly about this lol, the chances of this biting anyone in the butt are astronomically low.

Any issues with the Gen 3 drives? Seems the 2TB version is $50 cheaper than the Gen 4, and my laptops second m.2 slot is only Gen 3... Seems like a good savings for me, but wondering if there are any known issues with the older Gen 3.

If it's PCIE4, which this is, it's good for PS5. Get the heatsink version though.

edit: actually that heatsink is too tall for the ps5, but I recommend a cheap $5 low profile heatsink

Not for me. I've been using nothing but sabrent and hynix nvmes and they've been flawless. Gen4 made no difference to me so it wasn't worth buying. This is for pc only.

They will work but not guaranteed to work based on what the developers can require their game to throughput on the system.

While what you're saying is technically true for now, we don't know if future games will be coded to use the full pipeline of the PS5 which in that case there may be a slight pause in gameplay at certain sections instead of seamless asset streaming.
