I loved this game when I first played it but I honestly never remember seeing any of the ghosts!
The Stanley Parable if you want something silly and odd and nerdy.
The prose is elegant though, I can see why some people would consider it pretentious especially since there's really not much story behind the prose. It's more to generate and feed into the atmosphere of the area. It's not as much as trying to tell a story as much as trying to create feelings.
Gone Home is a better walking simulator with a MUCH more cohesive story and more reason to explore, but it's not as pretty as Dear Esther. To be honest, if you just YouTube someone playing through Dear Esther in 4k, that's probably just as good as playing it yourself.
I wouldn't consider Stanley Parable a walking simulator though. But it IS hilarious and it's a game you DO NOT want to know anything about before playing it.
Did you prefer DayZ Mod or StandAlone for your walking/hiking simulation needs?
