That's literally the last thing it should be. Either your unit is defective, or you're using a pan that doesn't really work with induction. Stainless and aluminum generally won't work, you need a ferrous (magnetic) metal pan, or at least ferrous metal in the base.

What type of pan were you using? I used it with cast iron and it went from room temperature to 500 degrees in about 30 seconds.

I have a propane tank on my beach cottage that my range uses. I've been using this instead and it's so much more efficient. Not only that, but keeps the home from getting too hot during the summer. Also, it's easier to cook smelly food outside.

how is this for searing? Thinking about it to use outside to sear steaks after sous vide... firing up a grill just to sear takes forever and this seems like it'd be much more efficient to heat up a cast iron pan. plus it wouldn't get the house all smokey!

Stainless steel 8qt pot.
I use the same pot on a 220v induction which boils water very quickly.

I used one of these to cook smelly foods on our porch, cooked in a carbon steel skillet for about 20 minutes before it went up in smoke. Literally. Burn electronic smell and a plume of smoke from the vents.

Sound like you also cook the electronics part. It have a fan to keep those part cool, not suppose to get cook too.

I bought this, sadly the fan is just as noisy as my old one. I'll use this as a backup in case the old dies. A few times it got too hot and stop working (fan still running but the induction part turn off), must be safety thing. Work again after some cooling down.

That makes sense. It should be noted that this would be weaker than a 220V version.

This is a 110v unit. So it will be much slower than your 220v induction unit. Also the effective induction zone might be smaller than your 220v unit. So your 8 qt pot might be too large for this smaller induction cooktop.

Personally I found this unit much faster than using the top burners on my gas stove. And I liked the fact that you can set the exact temperature of the burner. I just wish I had the counter space to use it daily. I also tried a similar 2 burner unit. Not only is it too large for my limited counter space. It's limited in the total voltage of the two burners. So if you're trying to use the 2 burners at the same time, the burners are limited to half their potential power so that you don't blow out your circuits.

So basically an induction single burner hot plate? I agree with the comments about using it outdoors to cook smelly stuff, that seems like a winner.

Thanks! I bought 2 more. We use this for hot pot all the time and it works well.

You need induction ready equipment or it will not work.

Aluminum, copper, glass won't almost definitely work on induction, while most stainless steel will generally work unless you have very high nickel content, just put a magnet on, if it sticks, it will work
