Debating S5 max vs S6 maxv for a long time here and ended up going with the S5 max... Obstacle avoidance didn't look very reliable on YouTube

Good choice. S6 Max has cameras...I am not down with that at all. It's not needed and Lidar is just as effective if not more so.

We didn't think the obstacle avoidance was something we would worry about. We kinda view the robovac as something that does a job for us, but it's also made us be more diligent on keeping our floors picked up. We also don't have kids, just a crazy blue heeler that brings out all of his toys, daily, along with whatever else he thinks will get our attention, hahaha
