With squiers you get them cheap new but they have notoriously bad QA/QC so beginners think they're getting a mustang but don't know they have to redress frets, rework the bridges, intonate. The mark ups on used come from the proven mods that are needed to make them a viable instrument. I'm not saying they're a bad guitar but a bad feeling guitar in the hands of a beginner can be very off putting.
