They are initials (Acronym), not a word. It stands for Kent Engineering & Foundry.

I don't have these speakers but people on here have said great things about Kef's lower end models like the Q150 and Q350. These seem like a nice step up. A bit costly but not "breaking the bank" for some.

It would be nice to see feedback for "higher caliber" speakers on SD as to how they compare to the typical deals posted here.

I have these and they are phenomenal. I have wasted a lot of time and thousands of dollars over the years buying minor upgrades or side-grading speakers. But when I got the Q950s, I feel like I finally found relief for that audio "upgrade itch".

The coaxial drivers (the tweeter is centered within the midrange driver) give these an extremely clear and wide-open soundstage with precise imaging.
These speakers don't need to be toed-in (angled inwards towards the listener), which allows for excellent stereo imaging even from multiple listening positions (off-axis). Most speakers that I have heard only sound good at 1 specific sweet spot.
They put out a ton of bass and pressurize a medium-sized room well (3x 8-inch woofers). Of course, it needs to be driven with a proper amplifier to do so just like any speaker. And for larger rooms or bass-heavy music, a subwoofer is recommended.
These are sealed cabinets so no bass port to worry about. You can place these speakers right up against a wall without totally ruining the bass. Many other brands have rear-facing ports which limit where you can appropriately place them without smothering the ports.

I'm always tempted to drop more money on audio gear. But in terms of speakers, these are in my opinion the best you can get before you start getting serious diminishing returns for your money. Long story short, I highly recommend these, especially at this price.

I have no experience with this speaker but there is only a single 8" driver per tower. The other two 8" devices are passive radiators, they're tuned just like a port to increase efficiency and reduce distortion around the tuning point. Same as a port really, except ports can chuff and create resonances if not designed properly. This is not a typical sealed enclosure, and will behave like a ported enclosure.

@thebeast1616, thanks for sharing your experience. It's nice to hear about products that are a bit more upscale than the typical "value" stuff we normally see here.

In these days, its tough to experience the "high end" audio sound because if the disappearance of the specialty audio shops. I know retailers have in home trial programs but it's a lot of hassle to try a bunch of speakers and return, then you feel bad about it too.

Yeah, buying these was a gamble because I had nowhere to audition them. A huge factor for why I picked them was actually their aesthetics. They are just gorgeous to look at, especially the white ones. But when I got them I was blown away. I have since bought floorstanders from other relatively high-end brands (Monitor Audio, SVS, B&W, etc...) and returned them all because none of them sounded as good to me. Or if they did, the difference was so minuscule I couldn't justify the huge difference in price for such a small gain.

What are you powering them with? I only have a RX-V485BL and thinking I'd need to get new receiver and an amp to drive these. Or would TSR 700 be good enough? Coming from Klipsch F3s right now in terms of speakers..

Check if a local Best Buy has a Magnolia section. Or if you search Best Buy for these, they will tell you what stores have them on display for demo'ing.

Do you have any idea how these compare to the KEF bookshelfs? E.G. Q150's? I have them and I'm not blown away - wondering if these have similar sound signature.

It seems like higher end speakers usually have a lower impedance so an external amp may be needed. I wonder why they are designed with lower impedance. Is it to get people to buy an amp too?
