Keep in mind that unless you can trap or catch a swarm of honeybees you are looking at approximately $150-$200 dollars more for just the bees.

Been a hobby beekeeper for close to 10 years. Have harvested a decent amount of honey from 1-2 frames each year, but plan on spending $150-200 a year on bees alone. I've had about a 50% success rate with bees surviving the winter here in the Northeast. Take a class if you can, check local libraries, bee clubs, etc.

Got one. Repped! Plan to make one anyway. If it is indeed cedar, the price won't even cover the cost of the wood, at least according to the price in my neck of woods. Now I just need to get smaller lumber for frames, much easier to transport without a truck.

Wish it had 2 deep with 3 or 2 supers. I am new to beekeeping. But from what I read, 1 deep is too risky for North Carolina winter. If you are in North, maybe need 3 deeps, according to the bee professor at U of Minnesota: https://beelab.umn.edu/manuals

Beekeeper here. I wouldn't trust lesser-known brands with something like this. Beehive components need to be able to withstand pretty extreme outdoor conditions if they're going to last. So they need to be well made. And if components aren't made to pretty exact specifications, you'll run into problems like supers getting stuck together. Bees are very picky about spaces/gaps.

Just stick with known companies like Mann Lake.

Thank you! I'm trying to become a bee farmer - buzz buzz

Thanks for the input! I SO want to venture into beekeeping, but have just begun to do my research. I haven't gotten far, but I was ready to jump on this for future use. My fear of causing harm due to my lack of knowledge outweighs my bursting excitement to start so... Whew! Lol
