How can it be subpar, when it beats the RTX 3070 in 70% of the games head to head. I've watched multiple videos that repeat these wins, it would be different if these 6800m's still were in 2k+ laptops, but this is 1400 bucks NIB, even less if its open box. What other gaming laptop at 1399.99 has the same power? All 3070 laptops in the 1400-1700 dollar range come with a 5800hx and most with a 1080p screen, except the Legion and Asus (no web cam idiot move). This laptop should be great for 1080p and 1440p gaming, just hate that it doesnt include HDMI 2.1.
Fastest of my laptops ive had. scores 11,000 on time spy.
A real deal at 1000$ open box.

Another point against me getting one of the local open boxed ones. Thanks for posting!
Very hit and miss. It's great if you can do pickup and have time to examine it. Any flaws, just go in and return on the spot.

I got a G14 in 2020 open box fair and the condition was so bad, the person actually gave me a brand new one.

I tried getting a G15 earlier this week and came with no charger and the rubber legs were jacked up. Asked if they could just give me a new one and this one was like, only if you pay the difference. So I said forget it.

I feel like this one may be better going new. If Asus history remains, their early batches have major issues, but their late stage batches seem to have the issues resolved. Sort of like new car models.

Sorry, but you are wrong. This is a AMD 6800M. It can outperform a RTX 3070 depending on the TDP and the specific game involved.

My bad, yeah I was looking up the wrong card review.

I disagree. Gaming laptops are going to be heavy. People who game want better cooling and expect higher weight. Sure, posting the weight is nice, but shouldn't be required unless it's a specific selling point (ex LG gram)
We do not disagree unless you are saying that gamers want their laptop to be heavier than it needs to be . That is precisely why I said weight is of course dependent on the purpose of the laptop. Gaming laptops will be heavier than a business laptop. But if a gamer is given a choice between two laptops with the same specs, price and quality and one weighs 4.5 lbs and the other weighs 6 lbs — which one will they take. Yes it is less of a factor for gamers but if it were not a factor at all then why not buy a desktop and get a lot more power for a lot less money.

Nothing SHOULD be required, a simple google search answers all questions…

How does this compare?

https://www.costco.com/asus-17.3%...04980.html
That laptop has the Costco warranty and return policy going for it and bigger SSD; otherwise this laptop's GPU is about twice the power of the 3050Ti, if not more.

I ended up returning it unfortunately. I spend a whole night deleting and re-installing the drivers. I would go to device manager, and the graphics card was there but windows would disable it. It was an open box so not sure if I was me or if it was actually faulty.
Defective GPU. It's sad that such a promising laptop was held back by QC

I've had this laptop since it released, and have not had any issues with it. I bought it to replace my old GTX 1080 desktop, and it has been an upgrade in every way. Outside of not having DLSS, it handles all new games at 1440P with ease.

How easy is it to dock to a 144 hz 1440p external monitor? Does it improve performance or worsen it? I am looking for a desktop replacement that I can travel with sometimes

The USB-C port on this laptop supports displayport, and Freesync, so you will need to keep that in mind. Because of this, I use my 1440P monitor on that USB-C, then picked up a Dell D500 USB-A 3.1 dock to use for all my other peripherals. Performance is about 10 percent better when using the USB-C port, due to the lack of a MUX switch.

Would work fine but should use the USB c port for display through a converter or dock.

Replace the RAM and it depends on what games your getting "low" fps, what is your definition of low, under 60 fps? Nvidia and AMD this gen provided low FPS, we want see true 4K performance from mid range and higher, until the next GPU family is released, which require alot more power. If you want high FPS, 1080p gaming is where you gonna get it on a gaming laptop, even though it has a 2K screen.

Switch out that Samsung RAM and it gets better by about 10 FPS, whether you have a Nvidia or AMD GPU.

If it behaved the way AMD descrete and integrated systems were setup in the past, Windows using the integrated GPU for non gaming use and it switches to the GPU when a game is being played. All of this was not controlled by windows, it was controlled by the AMD Radeon software. I used to be able to switch back and forth between the two gpus.

I think the later models they ended up moving back to dual rank ram, but yes, my initial one had the slow single rank stuff, and I did notice an improvement.
