I know nothing about binoculars, but will be going on a cruise to Alaska later this year and was already interested in getting one. Is this good for great optics and travel (very casual use) or not really? I feel dumb but to confirm this is fixed magnification, so can't really zoom in or out right?
I live on a high floor of an apartment complex in the middle of an urban jungle. There are lots of apartment buildings around. Will these binoculars work well for spying on my neighbors and general long-distance peeping tom type activities?

8x power is easy to hold. 10 power can be shaky. 42 decent field of view. Idk how much light it let's in; I have Nikon and they rock but I'd consider these if I didn't already own 5 pair!

I don't recommend. I used them to look at the pretty girl in the building across the street. With these binoculars, it turns out she has hairy nipples and is 65 years old. And is a man. Not sure what filters Steiner is using but did not suit my purpose.

I don't have these but I have a different brand of 8x42. I've never owned any others but have used some that guides are carrying. I love the 8x42. I regularly use them to get a view of birds and when you're within 30 yards the view is spectacular. And when you're further, such as 100-200 yards, the view is still good enough to identify the colors on the bird. Mine are not good for viewing after dusk however.
They don't zoom like you zoom a camera, but you adjust the focus knob depending on how close or far away your subject is.

FYI - I believe the predator line with "CAT coating" lenses means it color tints the lens to assist with locating prey/game in the brush for hunting - so these are not true world color (I made that term up) - for this reason alone dissuaded me from purchase last round - these binos are purpose oriented

Does not state whether it's a fog proof or origin of country. I'm assuming it's made in China with non-existent QA that's expected to break apart as most Chinese made toys.
