The Compustar remote starter that I had installed at Best Buy set my car on fire, totaling it. I'm still pissed about it.

Cripes, very rare event especially! How soon afterwards?
All I had is the dinglehoppers not hooking up the headlight & blinkers wiring harness (all in one wiring harness) & fixed that myself at home with their 2 min of over the phone provided instructions.
Wires seemed to be decently secured, otherwise.

Did you receive any financial reimbursement from bestbuy or compustar?

I believe that it was a just one of those things in life that just happen. It worked for a few years flawlessly, so I can't really blame the installation, but I started it up one night this last January and came out to an unfamiliar light inside my car. I wasn't immediately aware what was going because the glass had all smoked over, but it became apparent pretty quickly after that. To make matters worse, the first extinguisher I tried failed, so I had to run back inside to grab a back-up.

Everyone is fine thankfully, and other than the car, nothing was damaged. The insurance company paid, but it's one of those things where you never get as much as you think it's worth and you know that the comparable replacement you end up getting is going to be worse than what you had. I think fate was having its way with me because I had just read an article a few days prior about how expensive used cars are right now and thought to myself how nice it was to have a dependable car to drive.

I didn't bother contacting either company since it would probably just be a fruitless endeavor. I asked some people if it would even be worth it, but they said the cost to have someone confirm that it was definitely the remote module that malfunctioned would be too cost prohibitive (even though it was the only thing below the hole burned in my dash.)

Man, that's crazy! Glad to hear everyone and everything else was okay.

I hear ya with the crazy car prices nowadays. I have an old salvaged (hailstorm) Camry base 2010. It drives well, but very annoying to have to go out in the cold and start my car daily so I was going to get the Viper DS4+ remote starter. Now I am hesitant after reading this lol. Convenience is great...but I don't wanna do anything that could potential put my family at risk (our driveway is short and I park next to our front porch/garage)
