Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it

Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

I played with the same hacked hotspot but decided to bite the bullet, spend $16 and get a Franklin T9 off eBay to address the IMEI issue.

hacklovemaster is referring to the T-Mobile TMOHS1 free hotspot that T-Mobile sends out for the Test Drive [t-mobile.com]. Instructions in this post will mod the hotspot such that data use comes out of the regular data bucket and not the more limited hotspot bucket, whether using the SIM from this tablet plan or a regular phone plan.
Thank you for the detailed reply. Appreciate it.

Can you let me know what the IMEI issue is? I looked in the thread but could not find the right post. Thank you.

The IMEI issue is that T-Mobile knows the IMEI of the TMOHS1 is a hotspot. This means T-Mobile knows that you are using the tablet SIM in their hotspot. Whether they will do anything about it in the future is unknown. Ideally you would use the tablet SIM in a device that has a tablet IMEI.

Presumably the previous free test drive hotspot, the Franklin T9, as well as other hotspots like the Orbi LBR20 or Netgear M1100 can have their IMEIs "repaired".

I called the customer service number to get my tablet plan set up and the person mentioned that they can't waive the $20 SIM cost. Also said that I can only get the TE plan because I'm a sole proprietor. Has anyone been able to switch from TE and TI as a sole proprietor?

If you decide to change your T9 IMEI, does it make sense to clone it to the IMEI of your A7 tablet as long as you don't use them at the same time with separate sim cards? That way it wouldn't accidentally screw over someone else?

That does make sense. I'd think of it more as avoiding screwing yourself over by possibly having a duplicate imei on a network simultaneously, possibly flagging both accounts for potential repercussions.

Is there a tutorial to fix the IMEI? You said you just spent $16ish to get a T9 off ebay. Do those have the IMEI fixed already or did you get it to do some experiments?

I just ordered a normal T9 off eBay yesterday so I don't actually have one right now. As for more info, look at post 1446 by dvdrdiscs in this thread.

If anyone is in East Dallas, TX and needs a good rep, PM me. The rep does NOT require device activation. You can sign up for the plan only! I just did 3.

Guys just be super careful and check everything after you set up service. What I have been thru is a nightmare. I called and asked for the business dept. The rep set me up with everything (no tablet - just sim - TI Plan). She told me it was under the business, but never asked for my EIN (did ask for my ss tho and everything else was under the business, billing, address, etc). I got the sim a WEEK later and had a couple of quick questions. After calling customer service, the rep was like um, let me check a few things, and happened to mention a $85 charge....I was like "WHAT"??? I again confirmed the codes and the service I wanted. He assured me that he fixed everything and waived charges. Something did not sit right with me and I signed up for online T-Mobile account access. This last rep changed me to the magenta max plan $85 per month charge with voice!! Mad I called the business dept and they said they could not help me as they set it up as a personal line and the personal dept said they could not help me if I wanted it to be a business. Hours on the phone later, I got a business rep who straightened it out and changed everything to a business but yeesh!. I have since hacked the TMOSH1 following post 1171(and it worked liked a charm) and will try it out tomorrow. Lesson for the day. CHECK what they give you! The first rep did it as a personal line and the second rep changed the plan all together. Ugh.

I can confirm you can choose TI plan and promo tablet, after you receive the SIM card and tablet, the free tablet promo will automatically enroll in. I don't see the free tablet promo when I check out, but I got automatically enrolled in for the promo few days after I received the SIM card and tablet.
Did you have to activate your tablet? I activated my lines using my old sims on 4/1 and placed order for tablets on 4/14 with T-Force. I just received my tablets but not sure if I need to activate them.

Disregard. Saw credit today without taking tablets out of the box. I'm on TI plan.

Just to add a datapoint to the mix, I was able to connect TMOHS1 to an Linksys ea6300 (not the greatest) router that I had laying around and it is not counting the data as hotspot. The router was updated with latest DDWRT build for it to support USB tethering however. It could be due to either the USB tethering or that coz of my TMOHS1 already being hacked to mask the data usage with updated TTL values.

I was able to get around 58Mbps/11Mbps speeds this way, with the router itself on WiFi to my desktop, but YMMV based on your area.

I've also ordered a T9 off ebay for $17 to update the IMEI as I don't want to keep using the TMOHS1 and get flagged if TMO chooses to go that route.
