Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it
Some people don't live in a house.
Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

Thanks for all these info. Did you test download or upload speed?
Yeah I only get about 8/2 on a good day since I have terrible reception at my house, but generally TMO is decent around my area.

FYI, the TMOHS1 does run without a battery (at least it does for me).
Oh that's interesting, do you plug it in, take out the battery and then turn it on? Or do you turn it on with the battery then remove it while its on?

Alright just adding another DP here:

Bought a TMOHS1 for $40 off eBay, put in the sim card and did the root/mod from the Github link to turn off OTA updates and TTL masking. Connected my laptop last night and let it run Youtube all night (or until my laptop when to sleep). T-Mobile account page shows that last night alone I used 13GBs of data, but everything is categorized as "Web Access" which I take to mean regular device data, not hotspot since I was only supposed to get 10GBs of hotspot traffic.

Not the fanciest solution, and the hotspot does have some limitations like no 5G, no ethernet port, and cannot run without a battery inside despite a charger plugged in, but you can't do much better than this on a budget for true unlimited data.
I have the sim in Winegard in my RV. It works great. All the data shows up as 'Web Access' but my net slowed down after 10 GB. I asked TMobile FB chat what's going on an they said even though it says 'Web Access', they can see it as hotspot data. So the web access part doesn't mean much in my opinion. Are you getting high speed internet still?

Just tested again ... power it on with the battery & cable plugged in and then pull the battery.

fwiw, an interesting side-note is that it didn't work with a usb-c PD cable that I use for powering my laptop.

I'm sure I have some of the explanation wrong but you're going to have to set the TTL (time to live) settings such that data appears to be from on that device. Most phones (or tablets for this tablet plan) have TTL of 64 so you'll need to set the tethered device's TTL to 65 such that when it passes through your Winegard, it'll have a TTL of 64 and appear as on-device data and not hotspot data.

Whether or not you can do this easily with your router is something you'll have to figure out. Your best bet is to google "winegard ttl", start doing some research, and hope for the best.

I did the same with the TMOHS1, Followed the directions from the post to modify the TMOHS1, put in the sim and it worked great. I put everything away until I could test it on vacation. Now, its not working. I put the sim in my phone and it works, so it not the signal. But not in the TMOHS1, it shows connected but no internet...thoughts? Does anyone still have their TMOHS1 still running without a problem?

Yes, TMobile will know that you are using their hotspot "TMOHS1" if you do that.

If you want to hide the IMEI, you need T9 which you can get for $19, just search for "T-Mobile Franklin T9" on eBay. You can get used ones for about $15. You can get a new TMOHS1 for $15 plus shipping

Is it better to use a Franklin T9 or a m2000? Pros/cons? Would appreciate any insight... thanks!

For my Inseego M2100, I get usb tethered data and power through one USB-C to USB-A connected to my Mango router, as well.
Is the M2100 better than M2000? I forgot which model Tmobile uses - might be better to use the one they don't utilize.

I asked in a previous reply, so don't mean to spam, but got inspired when I saw your specific mention of the M2100 --- does it have advantages over the Franklin T9 or M2000? Faster speeds?

My understanding is that since the m2000 is the model used by tmobile, it is optimized for their network and bands. I flashed the VZ FW to my m2000 and had substantially worse performance all around....
