Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it

Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

Is the verizon orbic 5g and inseego m2100 the only ones that work out of the box?
Which hotspots work with some finagling?
I just got Orbic 5G & have m2100. So far, both have worked without any modification. I also have Nok 5G + GLiNet ( adjust TTL ).

I haven't really had time to play around.

Which option would you recommend for best price:performance ratio? (aka bang for your buck). I would be using it solely for home internet (1 person household)

Orbic 5G, you can get it for around $100 on eBay and I get speeds around 300/50 with it, plus the Wi-Fi range is actually decent.

Orbic 5g's price has skyrocketed. It's now in the $200-$300 range. What would you recommend after the orbic?

for non-portable... NOK 5G21 + router that you can change TTL. Cheaper than Orbic or M2100.

For the HD pass, do a speed test at fast.com when you get your SIM card. Without HD pass, speeds are in the ~2.5 Mbps range. With HD pass, speeds are in the ~6 Mbps range. I haven't seen any indication of this feature on the online account.

How do we get HD pass if it seems I got it without it?

You have to call or message a T-Mobile rep and ask nicely for them to add it (SOC code HDVPASS0). They might not do it or saying it's not compatible with the plan. I got shot down the first time I asked to get this added to my lines. If you get a rep who won't add it, don't fight it. Just thank them, hang up, and try again later with a different rep.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference. I don't think so

That's a shame, at those prices it's almost better to get an M6/MR6400.

If you are going to be using it for home internet and don't need portability, either one of the three home routers would work like mentioned before :

ARC KVD21
NOK 5G21
Sagemcomm FAST 5688W

Then you'd need to disable the internal wifi and use your own router like a cudy x6 or glinet to set the ttl.
