Just an FYI if you're just getting this for the "free" tablet. The tablet is a Galaxy A7 lite which only costs $200 ($129 on Amazon)

They will still lock you to a 2 year EIP even if it's free (They'll make a monthly credit to cover the tablet EIP)

Meaning you'd end up paying $10 for 2 years ($240) for a $129 tablet.

So if you're only doing it for the tablet then it's not worth it

Not on the "free" tablet, lol. In all seriousness, don't choose the plan with TE in the title as that one is tax exclusive (you have 2 choices)

soc code ZB10HSTI is the one you want.

Just realized I have an old TMO AC1900 laying around..... Can I ask how you went about flashing/converting it to the Asus RT-AX68U firmware? Might be easier to play with vs. my current setup running everything in the house.....
Wow, that was a headache. I did it prob 5 years ago.

I think I started with the baytechpros site but reddit guide now might be easier

For Merlin on the AC-68U this worked (unsure about AX82U) -

Asuswrt-merlin with jfffs custom script enabled
...
I thought the point of installing Merlin was that you can set the ttl directly without needing a script - or is the point of installing it because it supports jffs better than the Asus stock firmware?

Asus stock FW doesn't allow for TTL modification period.

What do the "logger" and "echo" commands accomplish? My script doesn't include them and works fine anyway.
Not sure - I just know this worked. Echo and logger shouldn't change anything, but again, I know this worked so I left it alone.

False. Enable ssh and follow any ttl mod/scripts. But it need to have usb frash drive plug in. /jffs/scripts/script_usbmount.sh

The point of installing Merlin is to allow you to manipulate the TTL and add other options via GUI and jffs. For these purposes, though, you do need a script because the extend TTL and other TTL option in the GUI don't work at all, they're useless.

I've had good performance with Cudy routers. I got the AX for under $40 on Amazon
Was this a used or new price? (x6?)
I think it was $40 on Prime Day

Wondering if this would work? As not expecting to get >1gb speeds in near future

If I could spend $30-40 and not have to do the hack - its easier. Plus my wifi speeds have not been that good out of the router

Hack takes about 5 minutes tops. That's a pretty good hourly pay for 5 minutes of work. But I hear you on the wifi issue, the RTAC68U is really subpar. I bought a RTAC86U on Amazon warehouse deals for $71 and have blazing fast wifi now. Just something to consider. I'd run an Asus over a Cudy any day of the week.

Sorry, i know a lot has been discussed already.
Have this SIM with ZB10HSTI already.

Have a Linux NUC running with ethernet connection for Internet.
Trying to see what kind of router/devices I need to make it use the SIM for Internet fallback if my main internet goes down.

I've read earlier stuff in this thread but I'm still confused. Specifically, how do you connect from USB-C on the phone to the router? And does this count as hotspot data?

Regular USB-A to USB-C cord. And it does count as hotspot data unless you mod the router
