I have one of these for our back patio, and it most definitely does catch mosquitos and anything else that flies and likes light. That said we still got bitten, but emptying the trap had piles and piles of dead flying bugs; it was almost like emptying a dryer lint trap.

I definitely would not bet on it doing much over a half acre of land, but for our back patio it definitely helped keep the numbers down.

I had 4 of the 1 acre traps on my single acre. It caught all sorts of flying bugs. Mosquitoes it rarely caught any. It simply doesn't work to be effective and justify the cost, cost of operating, and replacement bulbs that are frequently OOS.
