Yeah, but only IF you have a 24v Kobalt battery.

I've been on FW and SD for 20 years now, buying all sorts. During that time I've learned lots of lessons, one of them being: don't buy something you don't have a use for with the expectation that you'll find a use for it. Such things just take up space, add clutter to your life, and ultimately end up being given away or trashed. When I look at this tool this is absolutely something the old me would have bought. laugh out loud These things are cheap and abundant because Lowes customers don't have a use for them.

I've acquired a nice collection of Kobalt 24V and Ryobi 18V tools for ~30 cents on the dollar over the years. Let them keep thinking Kobalt and Ryobi suck. As a DIY homeowner, I've been very satisfied....

A drill will certainly not do the same job as a die grinder. Die grinders have traditionally been pneumatic tools that spin at a very high RPM. Typical cordless drill spins at 2,000 RPM on high. This Kobalt die grinder spins at 10,000 RPM on low and 25,000 RPM on high.

Die grinders are mostly used in metal fabrication and machine type work. Most homeowners aren't going to really need a die grinder unless they have a small MIG welder at home to tinker with.

You use bits like these in die grinders:

While it is a great deal vs the retail price, I'd still consider the $39 to be about what it's worth.
Fun fact I have kobalt 40v and 24 volt tools and these are regularly priced everywhere I've been for $40. I have seen them on multiple clearance shelves at $40 as I constantly search clearance stuff at Lowe's since I have 7 stores within a 45 minute drive from my house.

I haven't found anything worth pulling the trigger on for Ryobi, but I've often thought about it, but ridgid goes on clearance so often that its just not worth it to me. There's a lot of cool gimmicky Ryobi stuff that makes me want to get into it but I just don't want another charger clogging up my drawers Smilie.

Kobalt 24v however... its every bit as good as my Ridgid stuff and their XTR stuff is competitive with Dewalt. I wouldn't trade my XTR impact driver for any other impact. On YouTube, Kobalt tools regularly test near the top, it's a sleeper brand for sure. I'm pretty bummed they pretty much stopped expanding the line up ever since FLEX came out.

The Ryobi inflater (the fancy one) is leaps and bounds better than the Kobalt. Ryobi has tools that Kobalt simply does not offer. If it is a deal and I can use it, I buy it. Between the 2 brands, I've done pretty well so far.

Not sure if I really needed it but for $39.97 I needed it.
I wish more kobalt 24 v stuff would go on clearance.

Hate it that lowes now does not allow clearance purchases online or through app; used to be so much easier to get these deals
I can't count the number of times I've gotten my order cancelled because it wasn't in stock even tho it was listed in stock. I'm not surprised why they did this. They don't want their employees going on a goose chase for an item that's probably out of stock

I agree with half.

I disagree that you have to know the use upfront. It's always nice to have the right cheap tool handy. But you often don't know what tool that will be, so get a variety on the cheap and *having* the tool opens up the mind to things you can do with it.

But ... the first acquisition in any set has to include a battery and charger. Bare Tool only, so I'll have to pass.

"Tool only - battery and additional accessories sold separately"

I'd pick it up if I already had the battery and charger, but no.

Was hoping it would be included, so I'd get a tool and could expand a line of Kobolt with bare tools in the future. But no such luck.

Yes, the goose chase is now left to the SD crowd.

Always fitting that my closest Lowe's s haven't marked them down yet lol. But the 4 Lowe's around me had. Picked up the last one in the cage 15 miles away. I got a Kobalt 24v drill set and yard set so this will be a nice addition.

unwritten rule is they don't honor clearance prices online. In general clearance prices is for foot traffic who maybe going to Lowe's specifically for something else whereas shopping online people who purchase it are specifically looking for that item. Most times now their website won't even list if it's on clearance, the price and not all stores have it on clearance or even for the same clearance price. Very close family member works there.

If you're in the market for other Kobalt 24v tools, the 'Buy More Save More' promo is still going on and this Die Grinder is one of the qualifying items. https://slickdeals.net/f/15599218-kobalt-power-tools-accessories-buy-more-save-more-up-to-100-off-300?v=1&src=SiteSearch
You also need a competent cashier. By the register they should have a bar code they need to scan for the discount to come off.

I have the Dewalt version of this and for its purpose, it's amazing. If I were in the kobalt ecosystem, I'd buy one of these. A drill can not and will not do what this can do. My Dewalt spins 25,000 rpm and a drill is nowhere close. With the right burr for the work you are doing, these types of tools will cut your time drastically. I use mine for metal door installations.
