Depends what you want to power in emergencies. 256Wh doesn't go a long way past charging cell phones and tablets

Can someone who knows a lot about battery types tell me if this is a good deal? I'm looking at buying one (not immediately - just for emergencies) and this seems like a good price?

Would a battery pack like this be a good (and durable) alternative to a UPS for 24x7 power backup for a cable modem and wireless router?

I know I could buy a UPS for between $50-80, but I read that the sealed lead acid batteries in the average UPS last 3 yrs.

Would a lithium iron oxide battery's life and safety be affected if its continuously plugged in and hooked up to the cable modem?

It's a great deal for the money. As mentioned just don't expect it to be the end all in an unlimited source of power. Great to take camping so you don't kill your car battery. Super nice on the power goes out especially if this one has the LED light like the bigger model. The most important thing is the battery type it's the best out there that will last hopefully 10 years.

Maybe for this purpose. I bought it when it was 160 as a UPS for my CPAP. I woke up the next morning to hear the fan going and the battery was 60%, I guess my CPAP pulls more current than it can charge. I would think the modem would be fine no problem but I'm not really sure how much a home router pulls. I keep mine for a backup and am considering getting this as a backup for my backup. I like knowing if there is a power outage I can hook it up to an extra solar panel to charge and having a second one will be even better.

The matching portable solar panels on the page are $50 off too, for $120. Are these decent?

Curious - I am a bit confused if it did or did not work for your cpap. I have one and it would be nice to use it camping with a small fan maybe? Thanks

What's the difference between their "r" series and "i" series?

Sorry, it did work with my CPAP but not really as a UPS like I had hoped because it drained the battery even though it was plugged in to the house electricity.

I suspect mine wouldn't last all night using the inverter and my high humidity settings, but probably would if I shut off humidity. I also suspect it may work all night with default settings if I were running off DC but I haven't explored how to use the 12v out.

Its great battery technology but pretty small. For emergency you would want something larger at least 1kW with min 1000W inverter. This would be maybe good for just cell phone recharge or laptop. Wont be helpful for like your fridge something.

You would want one that can actually run as UPS. Otherwise you are draining and charging constantly and will wear it out it. Need one with pass through power.

You'd can pickup LifePO4 Battery and get a inverter that has UPS functionality and will work better and keep your stuffing longer... of course will cost a lot more though Frown
