No. The screen resolution on your Kindle is much better. There is a chance the new hardware is faster but likely not by much. Amazon makes these things pretty cheaply and does not put fast processors in them. If you are happy with the speed of your page turns, don't bother upgrading.

How does this compare to my previous generation (2015) paperwhite that I purchased in 2018?

I only read books. No audible or graphic novels.

Is it an upgrade?

Buy the kids version, it is ad-free and comes with a cover for just $10 more.

Edit:
My experience is with the paperwhite, but i think it applies here as well.

The kids version device is exactly the same with minor software restrictions which can be removed pretty easily.

Just typed them both in and it worked, although KINDLE2022 discounted only one reader. No trade-in.
