I bought a larger battery for my D4 from amazon for around $45 after using it heavily for 2 years.

Of all the negatives one could have with a robot vacuum, two years of battery life isn't one of them. That's a pretty great amount of utility out of a battery. And they're not that expensive to replace.

This is a great deal. But, with the new generation of robot vacuums beginning to have the auto-empty feature, it's tough to go with one of these without that feature.

I am super torn on this. The price is really good. I have the Neato D4 which I am still happy with but need another one for the 2nd floor.

Agree. The auto-empty is a killer feature. I'm holding onto our current bots (one for each floor) til the prices come down on the auto-empty. If I were new to robovacs, I'd either go all in on that feature, or buy a cheap Eufy and wait for the auto-empty prices to drop in a few years.

the cheaper Eufy etc. are still around 160 + tax. This one comes to $255 + $50 Kohls gift card.

True. I don't shop at Kohl's so I guess that's why I'm meh about this.

I've had a D3 Connected for multiple years, I would not buy another Neato (and probably not another robot vac). It constantly has problems navigating, it is unable to update via the app and it's a known issue for almost a year now [reddit.com]. I called customer support and there is still no fix, and at least my vacuum (the D3 Connected) can't be updated manually - maybe this D8 can.

I've wasted more time and repeatedly become frustrated trying to get the "robot vacuum that automatically cleans your floors for you periodically" dream than it would have taken me to just use a manual vacuum.

How does this compare to the Roborock S4 max deal that was posted the other day?

Any reason for the upgrade other than the bigger battery? Everything else remains the same as far as features go, correct?
I have a D5 and looking to add another robovac for downstairs.

Yep, I got a neato d5 and it randomly stopped working after 2 years of light use. Had a completely useless error message that was impossible to debug. Got stuck all the time too. Never getting a neato again with the other better brands out there. Currently loving my roborock s4 max of 6 months, hopefully it holds up over time.

I had the D5. I found that the Neato's design and suction were superior to the Roomba I7. However they are notorious to fail, which mine was a victim of as well. Would recommend extended warranty if available.

D3 is a pain in the ass, I have one that has constant issues with using the map. It is extremely frustrating. Also, it has terrible algorithm when comes to my chairs, it gets stuck underneath the chair and just goes in circles lol. Arghhh lol.

I would hope a higher priced Neatos would be better??

I would suggest people look at a vacuum ability to figure out obstacles more than it's cleaning ability. I would rather have a vacuum that is smarter and cleans at 80% of a dumber vacuum's cleaning ability. Trust me, you will save yourself a LOT of frustration.

Listen to this man, and get the ones with auto-empty feature. No more inhaling those tiny particles that may cause a cancer in the long run.

Neato battery will last 2 years then die completely. After that you'll have to replace the expensive battery every year. Not worth it.
