I bought this tv and the Samsung HW-Q950a sound bar last September. Everything connected up fine via EARC and the ATMOS effects in the room combined with the picture were fantastic. This replaced a 120" projector and Bose setup in the previous house, and I loved the clarity and not having to run in a darkened room. That lasted about 2 mos. Then the EARC disconnects started happening. I have now not had working sound from the Tv to the soundbar for over a month. Oddly passing audio/video from the soundbar to the tv works. Samsung sent support out that virtually did nothing and told me "this tv is so new it doesn't even have an FAQ in our system. Your soundbar is the same, it's too new". I was told that there are lots of software incompatibilities between the two, and that it can take 6-9mos for fixes to come out, if ever. BTW, the speakers on this TV are horrible. It has 4, and should sound good, but there is no range or depth and things sound muffled. If you are looking for just a fantastic picture and have a traditional receiver or other non-Samsung soundbar you are probably fine and I would recommend it. Otherwise I would look at the LG or Sony tv's, all comments and reviews I've ready say that they will work with the Q950a with current firmware. Just google Samsung Q80a if EARC is important to you...

$600 price drop since September. I'd definitely get it from Costco, when you have issues with a $2k tv you want the ability to be able to return it rather than fight with Samsung. Be warned, this thing is HUGE and won't fit in anything but a large truck. The drive home was nerve-racking.

The 85Q8DA not listed on Sam's Club's website.
Same $2199.99 at Costco, but includes extra warranty and streaming credit.

They both have the 85Q7DA for under $2000.

You didn't specify a model in your original post. The Q6DA you link is 2 tiers below the Q8DA in this thread.

Has anyone seen a review of the 85in? It uses a VA panel for better contrast than the other sizes which every review I've seen is on. Ips panels always get rated low for contrast.

From what I've seen of the VN panel reviews from other countries, this is a better TV than the x91j. Just depends what you get in the panel lottery, and if you're capable of calibrating yourself. I'm learning about calibration now, since I'm not sure to go off the q80a euro, or the rtings q80t config

Never quite understood Samsung downgrading their Q series line up.
The current Q80 is somewhere in between what the Q60 & Q70 USED to be..

Not sure what you're on about, the q80a is just a relabeled q80t

Yeah as far as aesthetics.
Q80A Vs Q80T [rtings.com]

They have different panels... The Q80A has a crappy IPS panel with a downgraded native contrast of 1,449 : 1
Plus subpar local-dimming. *I stand corrected... I completely forgot that the 85" has a VA panel but it is still not at the same performance level as the 85" Q80T

Q80T Vs Q80R [rtings.com]
The Q80T was downgraded from the previous year model the Q80R
Lower contrast, local dimming performance, brightness AND aesthetics. The Q80R had a sorta elegant solid-metal pedestal stand and not the cheap, weird looking feet of nowadays.

Q80 F/FN
2018 Model, an excellent solid built TV PLUS it featured an astounding 7,957 : 1 contrast ratio (Which oddly it is better than some current mini-Led panel TVs) that ratio has steadily gone down with every proceeding model.

That's what I'm on about.
After 15 years in the electronic business and attending numerous Vegas CES. I think that I should know a thing or two about TVs.

You are correct about most of the lineup of the q80a that has ips panels but the 50" and 85" have VA panels for the q80a lineup. Its hard to pick which review to use for this television.

Yeah... I forgot about manufactures' weird practice with their 85 inch models having a better panel.
Sony did the same BS.
Sony X850F line-up had a crappy IPS panel except for the 85", it turns out it had the exact same panel as the X900F but with the local-dimming featured disabled..
There were no reviews for the 85" X850F to be found. They included footnotes of how the 85" had a VA panel and performance might be significantly better???

You typed that without doing any research, on a post for the 85". As I said, the q80a is just a rebranded q80t.
