Is it better to get this or an older model like the Series 3 for cheap?

Don't get the Series 3. The 3 only has like 4gb of storage, the SE has 32gb. I have the SE and it uses over a dozen GB just for the OS, a few apps and a couple playlist I have for running without my phone in places where I don't get cellular data. With these smart devices you have to think of them less like a watch and more like a computer that is also a watch.

Will add to the chorus. My wife recently upgraded from a 3 to a 7. The 3's 8GB of storage is not at all adequate, and she'd literally have to remove nearly every app on the phone to clear enough room for OS updates. I can't believe they still sell it.

That's why I never noticed any issues with my Apple Watch Series 3. I just checked the specs for my Series 3 stainless steel (gps + cellular) and it has 16gb. I bought a series 6 44mm back in December and still haven't opened it. Series 3 is going strong. Have had it for 3 years now.

true! once you use the new ones though you can kinda tell how outdated the 3 is. the bezels are huge on the 3 compared to the newer models, also newer modeled are faster. But other than that it's still a good watch

Probably this, series 3 will stop receiving support and updates according to reports.

There's no way they're going to drop support anytime soon since they're still selling it. I'd say at least 3-4 years from the date it's no longer being sold at retail. That being said the bare minimum watch anyone should get us a series 4 (used) or an SE

I read that they were most likely discontinuing the series 3 this year. Typically they drop support within the next two-three years right? But yeah, agreed at minimum a series 4 but I'd argue the SE is probably a better deal.

Yeah unless someone can get a killer deal on a used series 4, the SE has the best bang for your buck for the average user.

series 7 looks nice. I don't use anything apple but would buy the watch if only it had longer battery life. I can't see myself charge a watch every day.

Charging the battery is super easy overnight with OEM chargers / holders. Here's an example - https://www.amzn.com//B085ZHH7LW .

I would also recommend the cellular / LTE Apple Watch if you're on Android since standalone wireless watch plans with T-Mobile are a mere $5 monthly.

while I love the magnetic charging dock i did not like that this product uses a (C) port vs USB ports to charge
