I plan on using this phone with another carrier. Is it ok to reset the phone once I activate the fi sim (that will be in the drawer for the next 4 months)?

Yes. Nothing is guaranteed but at least those who participated in previous deals have done the same without issues.

Do you have examples of people who this happened to recently? I know there are some Redditors that warn against it, but all the ones I've seen are just speculating and assuming.

I did the preorder promotion for the S22+. There will be a tracking timeline of how many days left that you need the sim to be active in the promotion phone. Also chatted with CS from Google Fi and they confirmed it twice.

I mean examples of people that didn't actively using the service that lost the promo credit. Because there are many examples of people who did what Wolverines12724 did in the past, and still got the credit.

There is always an issue with Samsung phones every year. S22 throttles the processor so they aren't selling well. I wouldnt buy into Samsungs corner cutting tricks.

Probably why people get new phones every year. Trading one issue for another. Figured moving to an iPhone would alleviate whatever qualms I have, but even that didn't really make any difference. With the gated garden Apple and Android phone manufacturers created, it's hard to back out from one or the other if you have any accessories. For instance I bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 a month or two before switching from Android to Apple and it doesn't work with my iPhone. Then I got 8 airtags, and they won't have full functionality if I switch back to android. It's hard to believe these $1k phones still have the issues they have.

You might be able to find in r/GoogleFi subreddit. I believe I saw someone said that they did put the sim in the phone once a month to keep the phone active on Fi. Though not sure about that. Best bet is follow the promo requirement and you other sim as esim

You can read the promo's requirements. But other people might find a leeway to pass that for sure.

And this is why I refuse to buy a phone that isn't bootloader unlockable. While I suppose it could be throttled in hardware, I'm guessing it's it's firmware/kernel controlled. Unlockable bootloader? Do what you want with the device you purchased.

I'll continue to rock my Pixel 3 (which is 3.5 years old so far and doing fine) until a good deal on the Pixel 6 (something better than the current $200 off) or the Pixel 7 comes out and it will have hopefully fixed the bugs from the 6.

I prefer smaller phones (around 145mm tall) and enjoy using my Pixel 4a, but too bad the newer Pixel models are getting bigger. So I'm getting the base S22 at the current discounted price for when the 4a starts having problems.

The throttling he's talking about is software (Game Optimizing Service app) and can be disabled. It's also been present in Samsung phones for several generations. The only reason it really blew up this year is because they prevented users from disabling it in OneUI 4.1, which was released with the S22 series. After the backlash, they released an update so users can toggle it off themselves.
