Don't get the flip, fancy phone, horrible battery life. Fanciness wears off, but day to day battery usage is what matters at the end. Need to charge at least 3 times a day with regular usage

I wish I hadn't bought into the iPhone hype. Lesson learnt. Now I have to wait a year and switch back. Apart from the battery if anyone is considering switching I would recommend you use one for a week.

I asked Google if I switch to a group plan would I lose the $500 promo. Here is their reply:

Hi Craig,

Thanks for contacting Google Fi support!

I want to switch to a group plan and would like to know if there is any penalty as you have recently signed up for the $500 Samsung new subscriber bonus.

I have checked the details and yes I see that the "$500 off Samsung Galaxy S22" promotion is in progress on your account. To qualify for the $500 discount as a new customer, you must keep the device active on Fi for 117 more days.

If you switch to the group plan in between the promotion then I am sorry to inform you that you will be charged for the promotional rebate and it will not be continued. Hence to avoid that, I suggest you to switch to the group plan once you meet all the promotion terms and conditions.

For more information, you can refer to this link.

If you have any further queries, feel free to reply or contact us over chat or phone (1-844-Talk2Fi) available with a limited team. We're here to support you 24/7.

Thanks,

Mona

It appears that in the terms you agree that it has to remain active on the same account.
Great question! I asked the same question earlier today and got a different answer (I think??) I have asked for clarification again!

Thank you for contacting Google Fi Support.
I see that you want to know will you lose the $500 off promotion if you create a group plan on your Fi account. Not to worry, you will not lose the promotion. You may go ahead and add members to create a group plan. This will not affect the promotion.
But make sure you meet all the terms of the promotion. In order to qualify for the promotion, you are just one step away, please make sure to keep the device active for 118 more days.
You can also check the promotion details on your Fi app > Billing tab > Fi Savings > "Click on In progress".
Note: Do not switch or activate the device until 118 more days. Once the activation days are completed, you can switch devices. The exception is only provided, when the device is replaced from Google Fi side (under warranty or device protection claim).
Also, I see that you haven't enrolled the phone in device protection plan, I suggest you enroll in device protection plan, it would be helpful. Users can enroll in device protection plans within 30 days of device shipment (you can enroll before or by June 13, 2022).
Here are the links that have detailed information about the Group plan and device protection.
If you have any questions, please let us know, we are here to help you 24/7.
Thanks,
Vanaja

This is correct that you can add additional lines to your own group plan as this doesn't change your original account agreement.

What you cannot do is join another group as it ends your original account agreement. You have to wait 120 days.

This really needs to be clear as many will lose the $500 bonus and you can't go back.

Thanks! Now that makes sense! I can expand to a family plan and add others that did not get a bonus $$ w phone purchase. Will need to dig up an old phone to get the 3 for $75 plan vs the 2 for $80 plan!

For those that traded in, how can you track the status of the trade-in? Or do you just wait 5 business days after the trade-in is received and hope you see a credit?

You'll get an email when they receive it and one when they accept it. You can also log in your account and the status is on there.

* Log into your Fi account, click on Account on the Menu --> Your plan.
* You'll see one entry for the S22 and one for the trade-in, click on the trade-in.
* It'll show the steps: trade-in box mailed, trade-in being shipped back (with USPS tracking number), device received, being inspected, etc.

I mailed my trade-in back on 5/13 from KS, it got to the TN post office 5/14. USPS tracking still said Arrived at P.O. 5/14, never showed Delivered (as of today 5/19). I thought "what the heck is going on?". They must have picked it up at the P.O. because the latest status on Fi said "Device received 5/17, being inspected, waiting for results".

Thanks, this is super helpful!

I just checked on mine and noticed that it's still waiting to receive the device, though tracking showed that it was delivered yesterday. Guess I'll give it another couple of days to see if that updates.

Now that I know where to find the status, gives me a bit more peace of mind.

Their system is pretty dumb. Just contact customer service and they'll refund you. I went through something similar and got a refund.
Just be aware that the support could take a while to process it while you wait on hold. I did it by chat and had to step away in the middle of it because it was taking so long. When I came back they had ended chat because I didn't respond to a question. I had to restart the process with a new chat session.

One of the many reasons I never want to deal with Google Fi i.e. anything goes wrong it is hell....it is not like other service providers are any better but still bad service from google...

That's what I have been trying to warn people and why I alerted the mod to remove the other guy post which he asked people to PM him and join his group plan.

You can go to reddit GoogleFi and found story the people lost their promotion credit because change of account (include joining other group, swap sim, merging account etc), you save maybe $5 x 4 months = $20 for a group account but you are risking a $500 promotion... yep this is a smart way to save money.

Reddit has extensive dicussion on such an issue do your own research:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleFi...al_credit/ [reddit.com]

To further clarify
If you buy the phone and invite people to joing before they buy the phone that should be fine (because you are operating in the same account)

But if you already got you phone and accept an invitation to join a group, that will void your promotion
So can I start a new plan, get a phone, then order a second phone for my spouse and then add them to the plan to get $500 off twice?

Yes you can do that, start a new plan and buy the phone, then invite spouse and spouse accept the invite and she buy a phone.
So your plan will cost $35 per month + tax
35 x 4 = $140

However if you actually don't plan to use the Google Fi line, you actually might be better off just start a line, then you send your spouse a referral then both of you will get $20 referral credits after she paid for her first month service

40 x 4 = 160 - $20(referer) - $20 (referee) = $120
