Don't get the flip, fancy phone, horrible battery life. Fanciness wears off, but day to day battery usage is what matters at the end. Need to charge at least 3 times a day with regular usage

I wish I hadn't bought into the iPhone hype. Lesson learnt. Now I have to wait a year and switch back. Apart from the battery if anyone is considering switching I would recommend you use one for a week.

Can someone help me in knowing how long it takes to go from step 2 to step 3 under progress once the device is activated, (screenshot attached) and when does the 120 days count starts.
I have activated my phone today with port in from Google voice number, but still stuck on step 2, the number seems to be active on Fi though.

Step 1 - Bought device on May 2 (complete)
Step 2 - Received $500 off (complete)
Step 3 - New Fi member activated device within 29 days (pending)
Step 4 - Transfer a number to Fi (pending)
Doesn't hurt restarting the phone. Mine was pending for few days and a restart activated it within minutes.

Anyone had their FedEx delivery(from Google Fi) diverted to a pickup point? I don't trust FedEx to deliver valuable packages to my home.

I know it's up to the shipper to allow this or not. 2 years ago, Google Fi allowed this. Still so?

Thanks.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank craigg

I asked Google if I switch to a group plan would I lose the $500 promo. Here is their reply:

Hi Craig,

Thanks for contacting Google Fi support!

I want to switch to a group plan and would like to know if there is any penalty as you have recently signed up for the $500 Samsung new subscriber bonus.

I have checked the details and yes I see that the "$500 off Samsung Galaxy S22" promotion is in progress on your account. To qualify for the $500 discount as a new customer, you must keep the device active on Fi for 117 more days.

If you switch to the group plan in between the promotion then I am sorry to inform you that you will be charged for the promotional rebate and it will not be continued. Hence to avoid that, I suggest you to switch to the group plan once you meet all the promotion terms and conditions.

For more information, you can refer to this link.

If you have any further queries, feel free to reply or contact us over chat or phone (1-844-Talk2Fi) available with a limited team. We're here to support you 24/7.

Thanks,

Mona

After reading some horror stories about packages from Fi delivered as empty boxes with no phones inside, I asked the FedEx driver to give me a few seconds to open the box and check the content. The fewer parties in the chain of custody, the better.

That's what I have been trying to warn people and why I alerted the mod to remove the other guy post which he asked people to PM him and join his group plan.

You can go to reddit GoogleFi and found story the people lost their promotion credit because change of account (include joining other group, swap sim, merging account etc), you save maybe $5 x 4 months = $20 for a group account but you are risking a $500 promotion... yep this is a smart way to save money.

Reddit has extensive dicussion on such an issue do your own research:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleFi...al_credit/

To further clarify
If you buy the phone and invite people to joing before they buy the phone that should be fine (because you are operating in the same account)

But if you already got you phone and accept an invitation to join a group, that will void your promotion

Visible just announced esim support for S22 (and more Samsung devices).
Anyone successfully activated or transferred to S22 esim?
In a reddit post, someone tried it, and it didn't work, and now they are waiting for Visible to send them a new physical SIM card because the old one is no longer working..

The estimated delivery date isn't a good indicator, it can be adjusted forward/backward by Google. Only when the order status is "Prepared to ship" that the est delivery date is firm (but still can be pushed back, mine was).

After reading every posts in links beow, I think it would be helpful to new comers by outlining steps below.

On 5/22, price on Samsung S22+/Ultra dropped $100 (promotion $500 -> $600, S22 same price).
https://slickdeals.net/f/15802984-google-fi-samsung-galaxy-s22-5g-smartphone-4-mths-of-service-port-in-req-from-480-new-customers

In summary, I pay $230 total for a Samsung S22 256GB phone. YMMV depends on what phone you get, and how hard you are to make the deal slick.

Out
----
$159.99 - Purchase iPhone from Metro by T-mobile
$349.99 - Order Samsung S22 256GB from Google Fi
$20x4 - four months service fee on Fi

In
----
$75 - AmEx offer
$320 - Fi trade-in on iPhone 11
$20 - Fi referral

$175 + tax = $230

Step 1
  • purchase iPhone 11 from Metro
Have a phone number not on T-Mobile network, to port to Metro by T-Mobile
Good candidates are Boost Mobile, Visible, NumberBarn, or with around $5 Amazon GC to trade one here in forum
Purchase an iPhone 11 at $99 (less $400 instant rebate when porting a phone number), and sign up with $60 plan.
You don't need to purchase anything else, like phone case, adapter, insurance, or any other account services.

More details in post below:
Metro In-Store Port-In w/ $60 Plan Activation: Apple iPhone 11 $100

key points:
  • phone number not on T-mobile network to qualify Metro promotion;
  • find a Metro corp store to save on activation fee and tax on rebate.

Step 2
  • order Samsung phone from Google Fi

More details in post below
New Google Fi Customers: 128GB Samsung Galaxy: S22 Ultra $700, S22+ $500, S22 $300 (4-Mth Service &...

Amex Offers: Spend $50+ at Google Fi (Mobile Phone Plan) & Receive $25 Credit (up to 3x, Valid for S...

key points:
  • Select "Flexible" plan at $20 /month (or join existing group to save on month charge),
  • Have a referral code to save $20 on second month bill,
  • Fill up above Metro phone for porting in (you may change it later at activation),
  • Choose to trade in iPhone 11 for $320,
  • Use an AmEx card enrolled for $75 offer to make payment (no finance).

Yes, one single payment to Fi may qualify you for three $25 credits.

Step 3
  • Upon new phone receipt, connect it to wifi, turn off cellular data, install "Google Fi" app from play store to activate your phone.
  • Port in your Metro phone number to Fi (or other number you prefer)
  • Mail back iPhone 11
  • Use eSIM with any carrier to start using your new phone

Yes, you may use the phone with another carrier within 120 days.

No, your Fi SIM may never be inserted into another phone otherwise the count of 120-day is reset.

Step 4
  • Check AmEx for $75 credit on phone purchase,
  • Check AmEx for $320 credit on trade-in;
  • Check $20 referral credit to apply towards your second bill.

Step 5
  • In 120-day, you cancel your Fi service, and then be free.

Thanks to OPs of above posts.

Woot got the $75 Amex credit for my phone purchase too. Getting the Amex credit on the phone purchase is good because it allows us to avail ourselves of the $20 referral credit in addition to the Amex cashback.

Here is my cost breakdown for no trade-in:

$300 Scamsdung Gal-ass-see S22 128GB
$23 CA taxes
$3 Google Voice number to port in
$100 Service+fees for 4 months
-$75 Amex Google Fi credit
-$20 Google Fi referral code credit
---------------------------------------------------------
$331

Do I rly wanna pay $331 for this phone? Eh, not rly. But they should give at least this value for trade-in, so you get to play with a new device for a little bit before using it to garner higher trade-in-value for S23.
