AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT Review: A Bad, Really Bad Graphics Card

"How to start this review. I thought of going for a fun little gag mocking the 6500 XT before completely tearing into it, but this thing is so bad it's really spoiled the mood for me. I'll cut right to it. In my opinion, this is the worst GPU release since I can remember, and I've been doing this job for over two decades."

There's a lot to pile on AMD for when it comes to this release, but at the end of the day, these cards easily OC - just max out the power, core clock, and memory sliders. The card can run fine and is power limited by design. Once you do that you're getting RX580 / GTX 1060 6GB level performance with better power efficiency, meaning a fairly cool and quiet card. If all you want to do is play some games, and can get this card for $175-$200ish and are ok with the two display outs AND have PCIE 4.0, these are... fine. I'd personally feel better paying $200 for this than a four year old RX 570/580 that's been used for God only knows how many hours.

None of this excuses what AMD did here, this card at even $150, or at its current price but with the normal display outs, missing codecs etc. would be way less irritating. But again if you just want to play games this GPU isn't THAT bad if you're on a budget or just want something to tide you over until the next generation releases.

Not only is the price bad, the neutered PCIe interface also knocks up to 20%+ performance when ran in an older system without a PCIe 4.0 interface. Basically, AMD wanted to be cheap and recycled a laptop GPU to be sold for desktops.

Sadly, once again, requrgitation of garbage reviewers, but not real world experiences. This card slides in between a GTX 1650 a 1660 Super in performance and 50 percent more powerful than a 1050 TI which is selling for the same price right now. It has HDMI and DP--which most modern monitos will handle. It'll support many popular games at over 100 fps @1080p and high settings. Apex Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft, League of Legends, and more. Decent card for 1st time pc gamer and a budget build.

The card can run games at over 100fps @1080p but not with 4gb vram. Avoid 4gb cards.

For the price in this day and age, it's a good card. Especially for a kids first PC for playing Fortnite and such. Still going to be better than integrated graphics and is on par with an RX580, 1660 non-super. You could either take a risk in a used Rx 580 for $200+ or buy this brand new with a warranty.

You can complain that it should cost less for it's performance, but this is 2022 and a mid-range video card is $700.

Why again should we be excited for a $200 card that barely keeps up with it's predecessor the 5500XT that was released at $150 especially in an older system with PCIe 3.0.
You're right though, if you need something right now and have very little coin it's decent. What's ironic is that the best budget build right now is an Alder Lake i3/H610 paired with this card.

People can complain all they want, but this is a decent card, updated with an HDMI 2.1 interface, which is important to me so I can run my home theater PC on a 77" LG G1 OLED at 4K/120hz (currently stuck at 60hz on an older card).

The chip shortage is making it harder/more expensive to make cards as well, not just for us to buy them.

This is a good GPU if you have pci-e 4.0 motherboard. Otherwise it sucks because it's only x4 lanes

That has changed recently the last couple of weeks. 6700XT going for less than $500 now on a regular basis. Was able to snag a 6700XT for $399 from worst buy 2 weeks ago. Of course, Nvidia options still overpriced.

Which RX 6700 XT graphics card was selling at $399? I think you are confusing it with the RX 6600 or RX 6600 XT. Nvidia cards cost higher than a similar gaming performance AMD card because Nvidia cards mine better, even with LHR designation.
