And presumably that means that even if you kept your computer indefinitely, at some point the new Office updates wouldn't run on it.

E.g., if your hardware can't support anything beyond Windows 11 so that's the OS you're running, but Office 2025 is only compatible with Windows 12+, you are SoL.

Thankfully I'm on a Mac, and both Apple's office software and LibreOffice are free and do everything I need.

But your Mac will last...
My main point was that a lifetime license of any software that can't be transferred between machines isn't that useful because at some point your old hardware won't be able to run the current OS or software.

My Apple comment wasn't saying that Macs last forever; it was that because Apple's office software comes free with the Mac and because OpenOffice is free as well, this deal is less relevant to Macs.

I mean I have a PC and a Mac that are both over 10 years old and one of them stopped getting updates a few years ago... The other is patched to current.

Anyone know of similar deal for Chromebook
I guess you didnt get the memo. You cant install MS Office on Chrome OS. You have to be Enterprise enrolled and use Parallels.

Google Workspace my friend. It is more user friendly than Office 365. Open Office is so 10 years ago. LOL!

browser is not the same as installed. for most people the browser version would work just fine.

also, not everyone is willing to give MS and Google full access to their documents Wink
This doesnt make sense to me and yet they have no issues typing their information on a browser. Don't use a computer if you are worried about privacy.

There are.

But there haven't been any security updates for that software in almost 5 years.

it's probably ok if you only ever use office to create your own, local, documents- and never open anything from any external source with it (including not letting your browser pass anything to any part of office).

Otherwise this deal is probably worthwhile for you.
Why you need a security update for an office software? It's just a desktop tool. It only needs bug fixes.

Lol marketing. Lifetime license is the new way of saying...
Yep, and "unlimited" on your phone call minutes and Internet access only refers to "your imagination", as every other aspect of minutes and access is, well, limited.

in the future the new great thing will be [changing] daily, then perhaps hourly.
Eight of the most despicable words in US commerce: "I have a feduciary responsibility to my shareholders."
While private and small businesses now use such tactics as well, I'd argue this strategy, of slicing and extracting every ounce of flesh, regardless of the quality of the product, or relationship with the customer, roots itself in people chasing the uqarterly monkey on their back.

using a computer has nothing to do with it. what you should say is: don't use a computer that is connected to the internet.

Sure. It's called Google Docs.
Actually it's Microsoft 365. But there's no deal with the subscription to this.

The price is the proof. Also notice how they are selling the professional edition, but show an image of home and business. Softkeyworld is a known reseller of black and gray market keys. Better off buying the same thing for cheaper on ebay.
The price is evidence it isn't proof. It also doesn't inform us of specifically how they got the keys and if that constitutes theft or piracy. I admit I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if this is obvious to people who are, but if it were I'd expect a better explanation than "the price is the proof" lol

Lifetime for THE COMPUTER you install this on. It's non-transferrable. (Updates are apparently included) I'm seeing regular price between $69-99.
This is absolutely untrue. This license is a full retail license NOT an OEM license.

If you want to move the license to a different computer you just need to log into the Microsoft account it's tied to and remove the old computer, then you'll be able to license it on a new computer.

Because there have been literally thousands of software exploits that give other people control over your computer using Microsoft office as the infection vector.

https://www.cvedetails.com/vulner...ffice.html

That's a list of 704 different known security vulnerabilities in Microsoft office.

They find new ones all the time.

If you never connect to the internet, and you never open any document you got from any other person or computer, and never insert a USB key that has been in another computer- then you're probably fine.

Otherwise you're playing russian roulette on a daily basis not being current with security patches on all your software.
