If you work for a company that has a volume license with MS, you should check and see if they have a plan where employees can buy the software for a huge discount. I have been able to buy the Professional Office version for $10 thru my work for many years. My wife can also buy it thru her employer. Only restriction is, you are supposed to delete it if you leave the company. Not sure how this is enforced since MS doesn't know when you leave. The license is also good on more than 1 pc, I think 3 is the limit.
That used to be the deal... Now they offer a 30% off subscription to Office 365 (single or family pack of 6)

I personally use openoffice. Not sure why I would need this.
The reason I caved and bought office was for PowerPoint, formatting doesn't crossover between different programs so if you're open an OpenOffice ppt on PowerPoint the formatting will look "sloppy."

From what I'm seeing, index/match is just as capable (if not more) and MUCH faster.

When I worked for a large company, we had a giant spreadsheet that did a ton of VLOOKUPs. This Excel took 6 HOURS to run each week. I converted them to INDEX/MATCH and the Excel processing time dropped to about 15 minutes (on the same computer, of course).

From what I see, XLOOKUP is even slower than VLOOKUP. No thanks.
Mmm good to know. I don't actually have access to xlookup yet. Just what I was told.

Lifetime for THE COMPUTER you install this on. It's non-transferrable. (Updates are apparently included) I'm seeing regular price between $69-99.
I definitely would have gotten this if I was able to transfer from computer to computer.

Still rocking Office 2010 here. Does all I would ever need or want it to.

So you'd never want it to have current security patches?

Because it doesn't do that, and hasn't since October 2020

https://support.microsoft.com/en-...%20updates.

As several have noted throughout the thread-- if you never get on any network (including the internet) and never plug in a USB key that's been elsewhere and never otherwise open any document that has been anywhere but your PC, it's probably fine to keep using unsupported versions of office with no security updates.

Otherwise it's kind of a ticking timebomb thing

Wow, this reminded me of this blast of the past deal:
https://slickdeals.net/e/8355911-ms-office-2016-14-99-for-students-and-school-faculty?src=SiteSearch...

I'm still using it today. 😂. Honestly, what kind of advancements have been done in 7 years in Microsoft Office products? Like the basic ones like Word and Excel?

EDIT: If they have full dark mode Excel, I'd consider upgrading. I'm talking about black cells and white text with a click of a button. In 7 years they were able to at least improve that.... right? Do tell!
I still use Office 2010 - still gets patches still works.

....or is "lifetime license" the new way of saying "installed version you own" ?
I think this just means it's a subscription.

If you don't mind the occasional scam, lots of key websites out there that sell even cheaper like kinguin and cjs. Even Windows for sale https://store.pcpro.co.uk/

Otherwise, ebay for the sealed boxed Office Professional or Home key card versions for 100% legal and legit, as well as the MS HUP

End of support was Oct 2020... so you haven't been getting security patches or bug fixes since then....

How does MS Teams work without Active Directory or an organization? You sign in, and it's just you, the team of one?

Lifetime license for one specific pc only. Is it correct?

Maybe it depends on the company. My wife can still get it.
