I have a desktop that I bought a license a while back from ecrater from seller for $10.
They provided me a key for Office 2021 and I activated it. When I check MS word > Account
I see "Activated" just below Office logo. Has been like this for well over 3 months no issues.
Not able to add this key to my MS account though.

I bought the key from urlhasbeenblocked added it to my MS account.
Went to install it ony my Laptop and had a little issue. I was able to apply the license but it would not activated.
Had to close out word and restart then it finally took.
Odd thing is that when I check MS word > Account
I do not see "Activated" just below Office logo like my other license.
The license from urlhasbeenblocked does show in my MS account.
When I open any office app I don't get any licensing errors so I assume everything is licensed properly. Just wondering if you guys see the same and if I should be concerned?
I bought a student version through Dell and showed in my MS account; however, it doesn't show "activated"...!

So you'd never want it to have current security patches?

Because it doesn't do that, and hasn't since October 2020

https://support.microsoft.com/en-...%20updates [microsoft.com].

As several have noted throughout the thread-- if you never get on any network (including the internet) and never plug in a USB key that's been elsewhere and never otherwise open any document that has been anywhere but your PC, it's probably fine to keep using unsupported versions of office with no security updates.

Otherwise it's kind of a ticking timebomb thing
Thanks for the info -- had no idea. I'm not too worried about the office docs I deal with (mostly personal or through work) but still, I didn't know this. Nice way for MSFT to push new purchases and subs, I suppose.

can you transfer the license to a new PC over time? if not, the lifetime license is redundant, considering nowadays PCs only last 3 years tops.
Asked and answered. See Q&A section below the OP.

Honestly, not to defend MS too much, it's a question of cost and resources and it's hardly unique to them.

Supporting every version of every piece of software, forever, would be insanely expensive

So they have some period for new SW they promise to offer patches and security updates-- 5 years in this case.... it used to be 10 years (this coming from someone who held on to Office 2007 that long!)

After that you can either upgrade, or assume the risks that come from running SW no longer being updates.

Hard not to bite - I'm lucky enough that I work for a company filled with MS zealots - we get free office 5+5 as employees. The downside is, we have MS everything -- They can have my RHEL8 boxes when they pry them from my cold dead hands Big Grin

Lol marketing. Lifetime license is the new way of saying you bought software for your computer. Every piece of software was this way until business realized, wait let's charge them monthly forever! I guess in the future the new great thing will be charging daily, then perhaps hourly.
I remember that - America Online (AOL) charged by the minute, billed monthly.

Always amusing to see how passionate slickdeals gets about the most mundane software.

And then they came out with various "free hours" plans, the first I think was 15 hours free PER MONTH with what ever the monthly charge was, and then back to the per-minute charging. The dark ages.

I had the same issue. I connected with the online chat. It took a while to connect but they processed the order and I got a code in my email within a few minutes. Office for Mac was what I ordered.
That worked! Thanks!

I bought this one back in January from SoftKeyWorld, total $27.81. And yes, it's still working! https://softkeyworld.com/product/...onal-plus/

Code SPRING22 for 20% off. Also code MEP1 for 35% off.

Edit: Code MEP1 is now 30% off effective 4/14/22.
Is this the web-only version or standalone app?

Do you remember if it asks to turn off antivirus during installation?
There are a lot of websites that offer this Microsoft Office for free, when you read carefully they mention to turn off the antivirus during installation. And that scares me!

Usually StackSocial stacks a bundle, I guess not this time. It woudl be slick if bundle is Office+Win 11 Pro.

Ehhhhhhhh Open Office is good enough for MOST things I need to do on my home computer.
Or just use the free version of Office on Office.com
