For anyone interested, here's some info on my experience and how the fix for the bad chipset goes down: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=153118660&postcount=4

I've been using mine since end of December and haven't had any real issues with it yet. Pretty happy for the price I paid.
This vs the Denon vs the Onkyo on Costco?
Since no one has answered you yet on this vs Onkyo I'll post my answer to the reverse of this question at the onkyo deal (I didn't even consider the Denon as it is the worst of both worlds with a higher price than either, lower watts per channel at 75, and only one HDMI port, also I have mixed opinions on Denon at the end of my x4000 that I'm replacing with the Yamaha whenever I want to unplug everything.) Also while I didn't mention it in the other forum the fact that Yamaha tends to sound"better" musically factored into me choosing it but really it was all about the pre-outs which I believe the Denon is also missing...

The Yamaha is 100WPC (at 8 ohm) the onkyo is 90. Additionally the Yamaha has pre-amp outs for the left and right speaker so you could add an external amp if you need even more power for those two speakers.

Upside of the onkyo aside from the streaming differences that some may want built in: it has dual HDMI outs (for zone 2 or a sub zone 1 monitor.) And more bandwidth in the 2.1 hdmi port (40Gbps instead of the yamaha's 24Gbps with the updated 2.1 boards that all purchases from costco should now have from the store, as opposed to having swapping issues that some users of the previous versions have reported.)

For my needs I went with the yamaha as I have enough HDMI splitters that I don't necessarily need the sub out, but I did want pre-outs for prospective migration to more power hungry L/R speakers and I'd prefer not to drop below 100WPC (My current receiver that's on its way out is 125wpc and it can power my l/r speakers if the yamaha struggles without forcing me to buy an external amp) My feeling is by the time I need more than 24Gbps as a projector fan I'll also replace my amp with a 9.2 or 11.2 one so saving $40 and having preamps out made the yamaha the cheap receiver of choice for the next couple of years before I drop a grand+ on a receiver again. (Of course this receiver also supports Earc/arc so you could very easily continue to use it for sound while plugging an Xbox or PC into the display directly which offers a very easy side step of the yamaha's HDMI 2.1 speed limitations...)

Edit - my early experience with the Yamaha: After using it to replace a demon avr-x4000 to power some fairly large speakers for a couple I have to say musically this thing is a beast. Aside from the usual crossover settings (only available on speakers set to "small") it has the ability to set a different eq for *each* speaker... I get the hype as it very much allows you to create the sound feel you are going for. Sure it's less powerful than the denon so I have to turn it up a little bit louder but that was expected. The one big annoyance aside from the clunky remote experience is you cannot adjust the two subwoofer outs independently so if they're not matching (say one feeds your front subwoofers and the other your tactile shaker) you'll have to man the dial but for the price I've got no complaints with my chosen crutch for a few yrs 🤞

I have this receive too and I have not had one issue with the receiver. I did have an issue with the new DirecTV Stream box but that is the box not the receiver.

This receiver is loud, bad-a$$, and pushes my Jamo speaker with Atmos hard, I'm very happy with it! And the receiver pisses my wife off every single time I crank it up!!

Only issue ive had is that the spotify sometimes just randomly drops out and then wont reconnect, have to hold the power button down on the receiver to restart it.

Also the CEC link sometimes acts up and wont turn on/off receiver with TV... again, have to restart the receiver.

The phone app is pretty nice to play zone 2 and select your sources and such without fiddling with a remote.

Ordered this in February. Think they'll do a price adjustment still? Any chance of a 9.2 receiver deal? I'd consider swapping to have more speakers in the atmos setup

I guess I've had this, too. Usually just powering it up/down with the remote resets it and the next power cycle is fine. It happens once every few dozen times? It's so few times I haven't really kept track. The exception is my PS4. It never turns everything on/off (TV or receiver). Not sure why, but I've seen that others have reported similar problems, so I suspect it's in how the PS4 implements CEC (which is funny, because I have a Sony TV). But my XSX almost never fails to turn on everything when I power it up.

Aren't these all working correctly from the factory now?

How many zones does it have? Like…how many pairs of speakers can it play different audio to? Looks like 2?

It will bounce between coupon off and coupon on throughout the year. That's how Costco likes to play.

Yes. They will. Try Costco chat first and see if they can do it from there.
