150k Amex Platinum Offer

+29 Deal Score
107,647 Views
American Express is offering a 150k bonus offer on its American Express Platinum card. Still has a $695 annual fee, but this is the highest I've seen.

https://www.americanexpress.com/u.../platinum/ - YMMV on points offered

I can create a referral link for 150k, but when I try to pull up the link in the OPs post it only goes to 125k. Will probably just use referral for the wife.

I got approved but they won't tell me my credit limit, saying it's "flexible". Not sure I can take this card seriously.

does anyone know if someone can apply for platinum if already have gold and qualify for bonus?
If you've never had a platinum before, you can apply and get SUB if approved. If you're not approved for SUB, it will tell you before processing your application.

150k pts worth $1500 for flights is on the lowest end (and as noted stacked with the Schwab card you can get >1500 as straight cash from amex points).

It's potentially worth much more used for some travel (transfer to airline partners primarily, esp premium flight bookings)

For example I recently booked a ~$3000 flight using 144k points.

That's on top of the many hundreds in various credits you can get during your 1 year of membership.
Quick live example: 100K points right now gets you 100K Delta miles. That gets you a Comfort+ round-trip ticket from the U.S. to Europe worth well over $1,600 (DTW-LHR in my case). And that's not even considered a good redemption!

The link gets me the "standard" 100K points offer, btw, both regular and incognito Chrome modes. But I just got a Morgan Stanley card and am pretty sure I've had a "regular" Amex in the past seven years, so probably a moot point.

That's because it's a charge card, not a credit card. There is no credit limit, you just can't carry a balance. As for "not taking this card seriously", you've just made an argument for nobody taking YOU seriously.

Definitely agree with you on the last part. nod

About carrying a balance, though... Amex has Pay Over Time feature. Not sure if it applies to everybody, but at least I had a pretty generous POT limit on my Gold which has now transferred over to Platinum in case I need it.

In before the OMG I WON'T PAY AN ANNUAL FEE crowd Smilie

150k pts is $1650 in cash with a Schwab card (potentially far more if used for certain travel)

Plus you get a slew of credits (of varying degree of usability) worth many hundreds of dollars more, most of which you can double-dip since they're calendar year based.... plus access to the best airport lounges around (though be aware you stop getting free guest access in Feb 2023 unless you spend a TON on the card)

For most folks this isn't a long-term keeper card (unless either you fly a lot out of a home airport with a centurion and you can get most of the value out of even the weirder monthly credits) but it's certainly highly profitable as a signup/holding for a year.... (sometimes a second depending if retention is offering anything decent- though the loss of free guests will ding that some)
That's right!!!
150k is enough for a business class ticket from USA to Asia (LAX to SIN for example), which will cost from $4k upward to $15k (Singapore Airlines) depends on your air carriers.

I normally either transfer miles to Aeroplan or ANA. A round-trip ticket from SEA to BKK or any city in South East Asia costs 100k miles on ANA flights and about 130k on Star Alliance Flights. This business tickes would cost at least $4k.

I already signed up for the regular AMEX Platinum and from Schwab a few years ago. What other Platinum brands qualify for this offer?

This offer is only for the personal platinum card. Other versions of the platinum have other offers.

The two that exist you didn't mention that I can think of are the Morgan Stanley....the the business platinum

There used to be a Mercedes Benz one, but they killed that off a while ago.

240k to UK from where? Anywhere in US should be available considerably cheaper on multiple airlines.

Do they allow you to use points to pay for the CC bill? (if so - what rate: how much does 105k points count towards paying off the CC bill)?

They do but the rate is awful at 0.6 cents per point.

You can get 1 cent a point for gift cards or flights booked through their travel portal.

You can get 1.1 cents a point if you cash them out through the Schwab platinum card as cash

And you can get anywhere in the broad range of 1.5-5 cents a point (or more) transferring them to airlines for flights (with the higher end of that range being for higher than coach bookings)
