Growing up in the hood, my favorite high class food was canned soup. I like Progresso, but loved Chunky's. Although I'm no longer in the hood, I still love to pop a can of these and eat with a fresh, crusty Balthazar baguette. Sodium is a motherlover, but once in a while is fine. Good deal 👍

I'm in for this, but...They make two different chowders (three if you count the Light version). "Rich & Hearty" and "Traditional". Which tastes better? Has anyone compared the two for taste?

Rich & Hearty has 170 calories per 240g serving/370 calories per can, Traditional 180 per 245g serving/410 calories per can. They are both 18.5 oz so the serving size and calorie math doesn't add up.

They also have a few differences in ingredients, notably "dried" potatoes, water and dried celery, whereas, Traditional mentions potatoes and no mention of water or celery. Rich and Hearty has Less Than 2% of various minor ingredients, Traditional Less Than 1%. I couldn't find anything from Progresso about the difference in taste.

Rich & Hearty: Clam Broth, Dried Potatoes, Clams, Soybean Oil, Water, Modified Food Starch, Onions. Contains Less than 2% of: Soy Protein Concentrate, Sugar, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Cream, Sodium Phosphate, Butter, Whey Protein Concentrate, Natural Flavor, Spice, Dried Parsley, Dried Celery, Yeast Extract.

Traditional: Clam Broth, Potatoes, Clams, Soybean Oil, Modified Food Starch, Onions. Contains Less than 1% of: Soy Protein Concentrate, Sugar, Salt, Butter, Potassium Chloride, Cream, Whey, Titanium Dioxide (Color), Natural Flavor, Dried Parsley, Yeast Extract, Spice, Whey Protein Concentrate, Carrageenan, Succinic Acid, Beta Carotene (Color).

These go $1/can on sale at the grocery store. This is almost $1.50, so you're basically paying for shipping on top of Prime.

I don't know where you live, but they hardly ever dip below $2 here in Hawaii. Typical grocery sale price here is $1.89 a can (pre-COVID). Not sure what the sale price is now, everything has gone up.

10 for $10 at ShopRite in NJ back in January.

No difference in calories when I checked, see attached.

I don't know if there are any significant differences between the two soups, besides the ones you noted. The Amazon review comments run similar. Customer reviews for both come in even at 4.6 stars. Googling the two soups, I find no comparison reviews. However, the overall reviews of both products seem generally positive - rated as one of the better clam chowders sold.

That was then, this [link to Shoprite] [shoprite.com] is now.

However, your point is well taken. Buyers might be able to get this product at a better price locally.

(Unfortunately, this is not true where I live.)

They'll be on sale again. Two weeks ago I got the Campbell Homestyle Chowder for $1/can. My point is this isn't a good deal, they always go for less.

Now I wish the Manhattan Clam Chowders would go on sale. I've never ever seen them go on sale, online or at my local grocer. (Or maybe I have, but they were still so overpriced that I ignored them.)

Goes on sale for $1 per can at local grocery store, but not bad at $1.59 per can shipped to my doorstep.
