I honestly have no idea how they stay in business. I use Redbox all the time and besides the free promotion from time to time I would get the the $1 to $1.25 off coupons routinely that I can't remember the last time I paid in full for a rental.
To those saying probably not worth the gas spent, well, if you're going to the grocery/gas station anyway, why not take advantage.
I really thought Redbox would flourish, but it was that in between transitional service before streaming really took over. RIP. We will see documentaries in the coming years surrounding the rise and fall of Redbox as we knew it.

I think there's plenty of people that don't take it back on time. I've even done that a few times in recent years, as I've been tired from work and too busy to remember. I imagine it's even worse for people with kids. For sure though, if you're diligent about using coupons like these, they're not making a lot of money...
Which is why we need to support it. Every time I grab a blu-ray I'm reminded of the quality when it comes to it's unbelievable picture and sound compared to the so called 4k streaming services out there. Therefore I for one make it a point to pay the full price ($2) for worthy blu ray movies and utilize the coupon codes for the lesser movies and help support it in my own way.
And before everyone starts to harp on me, I know this is SD and it is inevitable that hard discs will go away soon enough. We won't miss it till it's gone but believe me when I say it's worth the extra drive and the other minor inconveniences in the mean time.

RedBox still exists? I gave up like a decade ago. Too many photocopies of fake discs inside for starters
I call BS. I've been using them for over a decade and I have never encountered not one fake disc. Now I'm not saying that you haven't encountered any but definitely not "Too many photocopies of fake discs..." Nice try though.
Does make you wonder how they stay in business. The streaming prices are same as there competition. Spider man no way home is $5.99 on almost all platforms.

And with slow shipping prime credit one can easily avoid couple of trips to Redbox. Talk about convenience.
Around 2010ish was Redbox's hay day. Kiosks we're a great idea, too bad technology and idea wasn't a decade earlier. $$$$
Disagree. The same movie costs $6 for an HD rental on Amazon or YouTube. People still have game consoles with Blu-Ray players in their living rooms and it's convenient having Redboxes outside your McDonald's and grocery stores. I assume they're still bringing in some profit. But perhaps the worst thing is that Redbox singlehandedly wiped out mom-and-pop rental stores.

The Kiosks were everywhere at one time. Cant recall last time seeing one.
Redbox switched to a different card swipe method that made the self-serve kiosks even more klugey to operate. I haven't used in a long time even though Redbox is paying customers to shop.

There's actually one b-and-m video rental store left in my town, but it stays open only because it caters to deep-dish movie buffs who want to see foreign films like Truffaut or Fellini in the original languages, or outre' directors like Lynch and Cronenberg.
