It must be said, this is probably the worst tasting canned coconut milk product out there. It's weirdly thick and devoid of flavor. Chaokoh and Aroy-D are much better, and usually less expensive at a good asian market.

Regular price at my Costco is $9 and ~$6 when it goes on sale.

How is that even much cheaper? A quart of heavy cream is $5 near me.

Didn't Costco happen to carry this Chaokoh brand sometime ago before dumping them because they used monkey labor to take coconuts?

Didn't know their stuff tasted better though - decisions. Are there any socially responsible brands that also tasted good?
Monkey labor? 😄🙈

Thank you for posting this. I was curious how this compared to the coconut milk at the Asian market. I'll definitely pass on this.
If it has guar gum or other stabilizers in it, it'll generally be lousy. I've found looking at the fat % is a good way to know how good it'll be, too. Higher the fat the creamier it'll be.

Heavy cream is equally expensive. With that said for those that can't process dairy like myself, this is a godsend.
Fair enough, I happened to have heavy cream on hand and not coconut milk or cream. Was just commenting on that but it appears as if many SDers did not like that, lol. My bad.

That's not curry my friend.

TacoBell can never replace tacos
I mean I used Mae Ploy red curry paste, various other ingredients, and just subbed coconut milk and coconut cream with almond milk, heavy cream, and coconut extract.
I don't claim to be a chef and I do sub Greek yogurt for sour cream sometimes but damn, don't knock it til you try it right? I hit my fats w/ the heavy cream. It might not be authentic but it got the job done and tasted good too.
You ever sub oil for butter cause you ran out? Pretty sure most have. I used the ingredients I had cause I didn't have time or the will to go to the store or wait for an Amazon sale.

Ingredients: coconut, water, guar gum

Only 1/3 of it is coconut

The Asian brands in the Asian markets are better.

Not for everyone and I'm sure someone has some reason for getting specifically coconut milk/cream, but for cheapass people like me, here's a hack, lol.
vegans use this as a dairy substitute

Unfortunately, a lot of us don't have access to a good asian market. That's one of the things I miss about living near a city. The closest thing to it near me is HMart, which is almost an hour away, and sells Chaokoh for $3.49 _per can_. The online market "Weee!" has more options, but similar prices, with nothing under $2.

I don't know if that term is offensive, maybe 'Animal labor, involving the use of trained monkeys' is the right usage?

Anyway, this is what I was talking about:

I completely agree with you about the taste of this brand. I grew up using fresh coconut milk. I mean the freshest you can ever get. Coconut milk squeezed from freshly shredded coconuts. Anyway, yes to Chaokoh and Aroy-D.

Terrible brand. I recommend purchasing Native Forest or Nature's Finest Foods brands as they both are pure coconut milk with no guar gum additives. Gaur gum is an emulsifier which are generally not good for you. Emulsifiers screw up your gut biome.

Where? The cheapest I've seen is at Trader Joe's for $2.
Trader Joe ? I don't think it is an Asian supermarket. it is just a rip off!
read me context, I said Asian supermarket, not the rip off grocery store
