Free Electrify America DC fast charging on earth day. If they're working and not too busy. Good way to save a couple bucks.

EA is basically Volkswagen's "penalty" for the whole diesel-gate scandal from a few years back. They were ordered to spend something like $2 billion on EV charging infrastructure.
I just run an extension cord from my neighbor's house. 👍🏻
Gonna be real on this. I'd rather just pay the few dollars to charge normally elsewhere instead of waiting an hour or more in line. I hope people value their time more than a few dollars.

that makes sense why they're not end user oriented. Follow the money.

Free chargers suck. I live in a suburb of LA and we have had Chargepoint and now Volta that is free a mile a way from my house at a Dept Store. Other EV owners (typically Tesla's) leave their cars there for hours on end. As soon as the Chargepoint went to a pay model it was always available. I have no problem paying the prices they charge. They just installed the Volta chargers in and guess who is always parked there.... LMAOLMAO
hey this is the story of my charger here in la verne. kohls had 2 free chargepoint chargers, they started charging so i stopped using them. they recently installed 2 volta ones in the same plaza for the opening of a amazon fresh, now i charge there for free.

cant beat sweet sweet electricity man. if you're completely empty, thats like almost 100kw of free juice.. which at home can be $20 at 20cents a kw! (or $45 charging at peak hours of 45cents per kw)

I hope you're kidding. EVs may not "kill the planet" in your neighborhood or your city, but they certainly do wherever the battery elements are mined, processed, manufactured into batteries and then disposed of. Some of that may not even take place in your country, but since you mentioned "the planet", I would hope you care about toxic elements in all parts of the world.
Yep. Most of the lithium and cobalt in the batteries is mined from China with underpaid or forced labour. China is one of, if not the top polluting nation in the world. I love using electric or battery-powered items for the convenience, but let's be honest about how bad they are for the environment.

That's a false equivalence. Even under the worst possible grid scenarios an EV will be many times better for the environment than an ICE vehicle. That mining is certainly not great but it's a one time extraction for the battery materials, and even with power generated from a coal plant it will be significantly less CO2 simply because Power Plants are far more efficient than an ICE for the equivalent power generation (especially when factoring in petroleum processing, transportation, etc).

It's certainly not a perfect solution, and it's fair to be critical of the environmental issues of any part, but dismissing EV's as bad for the environment and not mentioning how much worse ICEs are is myopic.

I love reporting them, so it works out well! Very illegal and dangerous.
