EA is basically Volkswagen's "penalty" for the whole diesel-gate scandal from a few years back. They were ordered to spend something like $2 billion on EV charging infrastructure.
I just run an extension cord from my neighbor's house. 👍🏻
Gonna be real on this. I'd rather just pay the few dollars to charge normally elsewhere instead of waiting an hour or more in line. I hope people value their time more than a few dollars.

Now tell us how much electricity is used to refine and distribute gasoline. Gasoline isn't pulled from the ground and brought straight to the pump.
There have been plenty of studies around this. If you spent a little time educating yourself you've find it. The CO2 emissions from start to end to build a EV (including the mining) produces significantly more than an ICE. It's not until about year 7 that an ICE vehicle surpasses CO2 emissions. From there, EVs are more beneficial. However, the studies have not factored in disposal of batteries so a case can be made that's there's no benefit. Case in point that others have made, EVs are not a solution. They're a fine alternative for people but please do not consider yourself saving the environment.

Sadly there's no perfect solution, but we have to choose the one that causes less damage or can even reverse some, currently Climate Change is a much bigger threat to humanity and the whole planet than mining activity related to batteries.
The problem to me is that we are only band aiding the problem with EVs. EVs are generally considered to produce less carbon than gas vehicles but the problem is that we drive 12k miles a year and consume more energy than ever. There are better ways to actually address the problem which is reduce commutes, travel, and less of this globalism where our stapler comes shipped and trucked from China. Don't even get me started on all of our one time use plastics which to me is even greater of a problem.

Just my opinion but if we want to do something we should reduce our overall resource consumption instead of consuming more "green" resources.

Pretty much equal to a free tank of gas. There is one within 15 miles of us, but how do you tell if they are "participating"?

Any slick deals on a new tesla so I can take advantage of this today?

Sadly, Teslas can't currently use Electrify America stations (yet). Not until they release the CCS adapter in North America.

What the heck is "forced"? You really trust your shit media. I lived in China for 20 years and it is just a normal country except you can't vote. Politics there sucks but forced work? They are not idiots. Underpaid yes. It's a country with $10k GDP per capita and you never expect they have the same salary as we here in the US. You have to be thankful for their low salary otherwise you can not afford your life. Oh not to mention that Chinese workers are not lazy as you guys, maybe you can call them "work stupidly hard for tyrant" but your entire life, or every single person's life in the world are getting better because they Chinese are willing to work and produce better product with much less price. There is a reason why made in China killed any industries all over the world. You have no idea how hard working and smart they are, and uneven with the heavy burden of a really suck politic, they are beating us here.
As for the pollution, there is no reason China and any developing country will or can do anything. The west establish the capital and tech advantage 100 years ago, and can use any advanced tech to reduce and protect the environment. Not the case for developing countries. They have left behind tech, and the only way they can still compete with western companies is count no cost to pollution. If you want China and India, including others say no to pollution, pay them to do so. Or just shut up and enjoy your everyday life with cheap made in China and mind your own business.

Well said. Those other morons are just media puppet!

So much stupid in this thread. But anyway...

3rd EV, 2nd Tesla - once you drive electric cars and then ...drive any dino fuel car... you feel like the flintstones. They are better at everything. Environmental issues aside.

That said, the other DC charging networks suck ass. Had many problems charging a VW on electrify America (a VW owned company). The superiority of the supercharger network can't be understated. That said, we use it a coupe times a year - the rest is at home charging (+solar roof) - very nice time to have no electric bill, no gasoline bill, natural gas heating bill cut in half. Solar panel cost justification is accelerating huge with the elevated energy prices...

As expected, we touched one of the third-rail topic on SD (anything with cars), and 95% of the responses have no relationship to how to benefit the community regarding the actual deal.

So bear some stuff in mind if you're going after this deal:

- EA spots are known to be pretty flakey, with many chargers requiring a phone call to get up and running. TFLCar has shown this in some of its vlogs.
-if the charging is *free*, many will probably try to charge to 100%...which is very very slow compared to just charging to 80%. You may not find it worth it to wait.
- DCFC is always going to cause more heat generation from your battery than AC charging (despite the battery being DC). If you don't have active cooling (ie: Nissan Leaf), you may see even SLOWER charging time if you've been driving for a while.

Other than that, this is a good opportunity to MAYBE save a few bucks if you're driving out of a metro area to visit friends...who live outside of a popular Metro area themselves, lol.

Exactly. Neither electric or gas cars are "good" for the environment. It's like arguing whether cake or cookies are healthier for you. I think the problem is that a lot of the advertising around EVs has used eco-friendliness as a selling point (such as this earth day deal). It's true that in over 95% of situations EVs do have a lower environmental impact when looking at cradle to grave analysis, especially when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. But if the goal is truly to "go green", that's going to require much bigger changes to lifestyle than what kind of car you drive.

Our family has been all electric for some time, but not for environmental reasons. It's just a much nicer driving and ownership experience, provided you have a parking place where you can plug in to charge at home. It's just so nice to not worry about having to go a gas station all the time, or deal with oil changes etc. And the driving itself is much more lively and fun, especially at low speeds where you get so much torque at the first push of the pedal. They're just better at being cars. The fact that they produce fewer greenhouse gasses over their lifetime is just a nice bonus.

All that said, if you don't have a place to plug in overnight at home, gas is still probably the better way to go. Home charging is what makes EVs so convenient currently

China is a great place to work. That's why so many factories there have suicide-prevention nets on them.

Nope. Haven't waited on my car to "fill up" in 2 years, the same as any EV owner driving less than 250 miles per day. We don't wait a single minute.

Congratulation, you pass your woke test. Go to the toilet and get your fart check confirm. laugh out loud

I wasn't talking about "waited". I was talking about the speed it take to refill so the car can do another 300 miles. We are talking about "speed" it take to refill, not "hurry up and wait."
