It's better, but I think this is priced right if you're looking for good performance on a budget. I bought the 10700k in late 2021 for $150 and felt it was a smoking deal. This is similar in terms of value, with the benefit of supporting PCIe Gen 4 for faster SSD speeds on a compatible motherboard.
I'd also consider the 5600X at $209 and 12600k at $250 if I was building my PC today. ​Most motherboards compatible with the 11th gen will be less costly than 12th gen motherboards, and AMD motherboards tend to be less costly than both -- so be sure to factor that into your decision as well. Lots of performance value in the $200 range these days!

Also Rocket Lake 11th gen is 14nm (last one), and Alder Lake (12th gen) is 10nm aka Intel 7.

Also to the people saying spend 100 more. Thats if you can get the 12700k for 299. Also, considering the boards are newer and the ddr5 is newer, they are more expensive so it isn't any where close to $100 more. The 12700k also takes 190 watts instead of 125 so a more expensive power supply may be needed. From what i see, it is like a 15% to 20% increase in benchmarks from the 11700k to the 12700k. I could be wrong on that.
Lots of folks don't buy GPUs. I just built a 12900 and 12700 rig. The former is running 4k just fine and the latter is running 4k plus two other monitors just fine.

Not everyone games.

Noob question, Building my first PC and trying to cut corners when I can. Mild use for gaming and more utility use for work/school. Would this be viable for a few years as opposed to 12 gen model? Best Buy will price match when I spoke with a rep. Was going to do this i7, 64gb ram, 3070ti, 850w power supply, 240 water cooler, 1-2tb SSD, Corsair 4000x case, ASUS 560-A MOBO
