Amazon still mixes its own inventory with third party inventory.

Edit: why thumb down on a fact? Amazon mixes their own and third party (FBA) inventory to basically use them as cost-free safety stock at the expense of potentially selling counterfeits.

You're absolutely dead wrong. They co mingle their own stock with 3rd party stock they keep at their warehouses. You really think they have some magical special place where only items that came from the manufacturer are placed? Everything is based on barcode and if it scans correctly it goes into the box shipped to you. It doesn't matter where it came from. Otherwise how would you explain the numerous reports of people getting fake memory cards shipped directly from Amazon? And Amazon doesn't care one lick about your fake memory card if they can make billions charging sellers AND buyers. And as anecdotal evidence when I brought up my issue with my fake card that I bought directly from Amazon they couldn't have cared less. Since it was past 30 days they initially refused to do anything. I had to elevate it several times until I finally received a refund. And they didn't care one bit that the issue was that I had received a fake memory card shipped directly from them. I was surprised until I did some digging and found this was a huge widespread problem and that they know about it but don't do anything about it. Sure they'll throw a bunch of 3rd party sellers under the bus and ban them and god forbid some poor sap that makes a living as a third party seller be one of those people. Their entire source of income is gone in a flash with no recourse and Amazon pats themselves on the back for stopping counterfeit goods while willfully continuing a practice that lets counterfeit goods permeate their own stock. Just so they can double charge people.

Oh yeah and when I wrote a review stating that Amazon sold me a counterfeit memory card they took the review down. So take that what it's worth. Didn't they just ban some major third party manufacturers for encouraging people to leave a review? As far as I know they couldn't selectively delete negative reviews yet Amazon does exactly that….

Yep. Been burned before. Bought from directly Amazon. Didn't know until a year later. It doesn't matter they know about this issue but don't care. They continue to comingle their stock with 3rd party sellers. I only buy from Best Buy and B&H now.

Can someone point at a good tutorial on what to do after getting the card to determine correct read/write speeds? I have a modded switch that has a benchmark test on it as well so I can use that, but couldn't a counterfeit item just be a well made counterfeit item so it seems legit but then gets corrupted? Is there a way to tell otherwise? Thanks

Edit: I just downloaded H2testw on my old Windows PC - is there a good alternative for Mac?

No one said it was widespread.

Just knowing there ARE counterfeit items allowed in the system is enough to steer me clear.

My luck isn't good enough to risk it.
you are protected by Amazon. it's sold by Amazon. if you can't use Amazons impeccable return policy then the only available retailer that is better would be Home Depot. so have fun with that.

Amazon is indeed Satan in a Sunday hat as my grandma used to say however I'm just guilty as I support them through product purchases. When I dig deep into their practices , I feel worse than a SMOKER …
Don't feel bad. I've tried to resist for quite a long time so much that I drive to multiple stores to find what I need but it's getting increasingly harder. Perfect example was today I was looking for a rubber rejuvenation compound which used to be readily available at any auto parts store. I visited four different retailers and no one had it. Tried their websites and it wasn't available for purchase there either. What's a guy supposed to do? As I write this an Amazon truck zoomed past the house. LOL.

386 or 486dx?
Wanted to pop in and say I started with a Compaq 10MB hard disk monochrome suite case computer. It had a 386 with a math coprocessor and only ran the most basic of 5.25 floppy diskettes. I'm 40 btw. Haha.

Right. I can list at least half a dozen sources for guaranteed authentic items. The return policy still requires action on the customer's part. Their policies also allow for the fraudulent items to be shipped out...

Oh the Sony Memory Sticks. I'd forgotten about buying these when I had my PSP. So crazy how much more memory we can get for the money now.

This is just personal experience without proof and generally bad information. 3rd party sellers all have their own unique merchant SKU number. Amazon would not reassign 3rd party sellers as their own inventory. That would be stealing. Counterfeit is taken insanely serious by Amazon and honesty counterfeit is not as widespread as people think. Plus even if somehow you get a counterfeit, your purchase is protected by Amazon's A-Z guarantee. Quit spreading nonsense.

Personal experience backed by multiple people in this thread and multiple articles written by well respected journalists. 3rd party sellers do not have their own individual SKU. They're all the same and kept in the same place. That's the whole point of their program. They accept stock from 3rd parties and keep it in their warehouse and charge both the seller and the buyer. Pickers don't distinguish between the 3rd party item and one that comes from the manufacturer. It's literally the same barcode. And that's exactly the program. Sure they say they're tough on counterfeits. They'll ban all the third party sellers they want because it looks good and it doesn't hurt their bottom line at all. But they know about the issues with commingled stock and they won't do anything about it because they make way too much money off of their system. They could stop it. But they won't. Because honestly the chances are still pretty low you'll get a fake so they're not going to risk their little scheme just for consumer satisfaction.

And they sure didn't want to back their "A-Z guarantee". I had to fight for that. Even with proof of them selling fake memory cards.

I'm just taking your exact "logic" and applying it to other situations. Don't like it? It's your logic.

How did you find out your card was counterfeit?
It took awhile. I used it in my Switch and didn't download much to it so it took awhile to to fill up. But I was having issues saying it was filled up way before it should have been. Since it wasn't a critical thing I didn't think too much of it. Finally decided to pull it out and check it and it still showed up as a 128 gb card. But it wasn't accepting any new data. Didn't occur to me it could be a fake since I'm always careful about buying directly through Amazon. I don't know what made me think about it but I finally figured it out and ran H2testw and found out it was only a 32 gb much slower card. I wish I kept the packaging it was a good fake. Since it was past 30 days Amazon did not care one bit that they were selling fake memory cards.
