Free In store pickup, 2-day shipping & waived smartphone activation fee when you buy online. Limited time offer.

What's special about this offer is that it does not require the upgrade to involve modifying the existing unlimited plan. This serves me well, because I am still on one of those grandfathered unlimited plan and I have to avoid the typical upgrade offers that require me to switch to a newer unlimited plans.

Probably want to add some things to the title like requires iPhone 11 or newer trade in and 36 month contract. A good deal if you don't mind those requirements but probably better deals coming this fall/black Friday on new models if you can wait.

Anyone have any advice about using the Device Dollars that are expiring at the end of June? Everything seems to require adding a new line or upgrading an existing line except the Versa 2 smartwatch. . . .

I HATE that they switched all promos from 24 months to 36 months. You either wait 3 years for your upgrade or forgo a portion of the promo (ie give up a good chunk of the credit for the phone you traded in at time of purchase) if you want/need a phone before 3 years. The strings that are attached keep getting more and more complex.

Just buy a phone and use them. They come off the total before the payments are calculated.

There is no such thing as a straight upgrade with Verizon or any other company anymore. Mobile phone services is one of the biggest rackets around. Not that that is news to anyone.

bit off topic, but why are YOU still on the grandfathered unlimited plan? i'm still on it too...
i dont have a hotspot option on my original 700 nationwide talk plan, BUT a few yrs ago i purchased an unlocked samsung Galaxy S8 and realized i can hotspot my data to anyone! i upgrade/tradein every 2 years. S8, S10, Note 20, now I have a S22 Ultra now, but can't access the "ultra wideband 5G" just regular 5G.

is uwb 5G access enough to update to the new "unlimited" plans?

I'm still on the old grandfathered unlimited plan as well. I pay out the nose for it and I'm considering changing. I can get what looks to be like 40-50GB of data with tethering for like $50 less. That amount of data would satisfy my needs.

Is there something I'm missing in regards as to why I shouldn't switch?

You are one of the few that would appreciate this deal. No questions asked. They didn't bother me with trying to convince me to upgrade to a new plan, the act which I despise. I just chatted through verizon website so that I don't have to deal with sales people or over the phone.

I'm also curious as to this answer as well.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my ask. Why are you still on the old unlimited plan? My bill is like $130 for one line. I can cut that by $40 by switching to a current plan, plus pick up Hulu and whatever else for free.

Why are you still rocking the OG plan? Is there a reason I shouldn't switch up plans?

YMMV. I am on a family plan owned by another family member so I am required not to touch the plan in any way. Last time I had to buy a refurbished iphone 11 because upgrading without changing plan was not an option offered by Verizon. Not sure what plan it is, but I just can't touch it.

Most folks who hold onto gUDP do so for the unlimited non throttle option to tether. I don't know if you can do this anymore but some of them downgraded to the lowest cost minute plan that brought the single line plan down to $45 before tax - details can be found on reddit. Use case: folks who use this plan for internet connectivity RVing, etc.

I gave up gUDP a long time ago once Verizon locked that plan out of device upgrade promotions (and later added an additional fee to add device installment).

If you want/need unlimited hotspot/tethering (hundreds of gigs to TBs of data) gUDP still has it's place. Otherwise for just smartphone unlimited data the Get More plan doesn't throttle. In fact I've never experienced throttling even on the lower tier premium plans (Play More) even after using several hundred gigs.

If your area has access to C-band 5G UWB it is significantly faster than LTE/"5G" Nationwide. That could be another reason to switch to the new plans.

gUDP had it's place for awhile when the unlimited plans by Verizon were pretty low on GB and other features.

Now it seems a waste unless you are blazing data non stop

It's the least restricted unlimited plan you can have on vzw. I don't own a 5G phone currently, but my brother, who does and has the grandfathered plan as well, does and says 5g is noticeable but nothing fancy. He most recently had an S20 and S22 ultra so he has the latest tech with a 5g connection. 5G has the downside of using more battery as well.

We only buy unlocked phones to keep verizon software off the phones because Verizon forces mfr's to disable tethering if you have the old Nationwide Talk & text plans.

Furthermore, a year before Covid I started watching/listening to a youtube channel with 3-4 hour streams, so I was using 40gb+ of data unthrottled.

With Covid and wfh I've been using my home wireless and a strong router, which is probably faster than 4G or 5g, I barely use anywhere near the same data, but I haven't jumped off the plan because it's still the best plan that I wouldn't be able to get back. Also, my kids are getting older and I might start tethering more often now.
