The Gaggia Brera is a compact super-automatic espresso and coffee machine that is capable of making anything from espresso to cappuccino. The Pannarello wand allows you to steam and foam your milk until it is smooth and velvety, great for topping off lattes or for making hot cocoa. I guess it comes down to maintenance. I've had my DeLonghi Super Automatic for 9 years now and it still works like new and prior to that I had a Saeco for 13 years. Descale and clean them regularly and they will go quite a while.

Man, we are lucky then! My father had a Saeco Xsmall Vapore that he really liked for a year or two, so we got one. We've had ours for years now (4 at least I think?) currently averaging 5 shots and one americano per day (I've cut down to 3 and wife accounts for the rest) with no issues. A family friend got one a couple of years ago, and I don't think any of the 3 machines have been cared for much nor have had any issues. None of use the steam wand very much so maybe that's part of it.

I don't think that Ninja can do espresso, and if it can, it would be through pods instead of the actual traditional method of making espresso (forcing very hot water under pressure through more finely ground, compacted coffee.) There are a ton of differences between pod and non-pod, this seems like a good place to start reading up on the differences:

If that Ninja can make espresso, you should try that, and then go get a shot of espresso from a coffee shop, and decide if you care about the difference. Most espresso enjoyers tend to prefer the fresher, traditionally made shots over what the pod method has to offer, although some people don't care, and that's totally fine.

Seems like a good price! Thing with these superautomatics is that they all break in a couple of years. After going through three of those (Gaggia, Krups and Saeco; all ~ $600 ea) in five years, I gave up and purchased a Breville semiautomatic on a crazy deal on eb for this op price in 2018. Its still going strong and beats supers I tried in every aspect, specially the quality of milk foam. It has already outlived lives of 2 supers and probably will outlive all three that broke on me. Repairs on none of those were cost effective - had to junk.

Ive had my breville 870xl since 2015 and it works great still. Ever year i have to take the rubber seal out where the portafilter snaps to seal and clean it to restore the pressure. Pretty low maintenance imho.

Running my brera since 2018. I guess ymmv.
That said, I would like to have a breville semi auto.

We've had our Saeco Xsmall 8 years now, and it's brewed 25,000+ shots. It's a little finicky at times, but the only real issue we had required the grinder to be taken apart and cleaned. These Brera's have most of the same internals as the Xsmall (brew group, grinder, pump, etc.), and this is what I plan on buying when my Xsmall finally dies.

this is a great super auto, had it for about 5 years before it started leaking, at that point we had gotten far more value out of it and decided to just get another super auto that has been running fine for 3 years now. One of the main things to keep in mind for any super auto is not to use oily beans as they tend to clog up the machine and cause a lot of issues. Plus performing regular maintenance of cleaning out the brew head and rising etc will prevent most major issues.
