Prob bc most ppl have no idea what that means, and without context it appears off topic or troll-y.

It's 3D printer related for everyone who doesn't know. https://octoprint.org/

I did mix testing with this against other options and found it's not much better than a crappy built in HP laptop mic. Much better results even from a $30 Amazon basics usb mic.

Does anyone know which webcams are best for auto white balance with bright background? This one looks terrible in that scenario, especially for dark skinned folks.

Doesn't Zoom have its own noise-cancelling feature now? I'm sure it's not as good as actual hardware though. I've been using an old Logitech 720 camera for Zoom, but I use a separate $15 USB microphone. It only picks up what's right in front of it, which is nice because the AC unit is close by. Before that I used the microphone on the webcam, and it was fine but the only reason I stopped is because it developed a high-pitched whine whenever I'd unmute on Zoom.
This. I'm no techie but a separate mic costing under $50 should solve or be a significant improvement to any camera with a built in mic, no?

Agreed. Just like built-in webcams on laptops, built-in microphones on webcams are not the greatest lol

The one on 16 inch M1Pro mac is pretty good though. I've been using that since I haven't been able to connect the work laptop to my accessories yet.

I agree with this, so let me clarify… for a lot of laptops that are not thousands of dollars, the webcams and microphones are not the greatest.
I would love to get my hands on some of the new Macs though, awesome tech!

I'll report back in a few. Just picked it up.

I'm most curious whether the MacBook will digitally optimize the imaging as it does with its built-in camera. The low light image quality is phenomenal with the built-in camera.

I've used this camera on zoom hundreds of times with the built in mic. Sounds quality is good.
Hundreds of times? That's a lot of zoom meetings.

Depending on their job, they may be in meetings all day long throughout the week -- for example, account executives

Thanks, picked one up. Been using the built-in webcam on my Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 9 and it sucks. Haven't had a standalone webcam for decades. This will work well with both my desktop and the laptop.

I'd be interested in the results. Do you have some recommendations for USB mics?

Thanks!

If you've tried adjusting exposure in the webcam software already and not happy, look for an HDR (high dynamic range) webcam. There are a few on the market and they are expensive. ~$200 for Logitech 4K Pro with HDR.
A cheaper solution would be a adding front lighting, like a ring light or desk lamp. Experiment with placement.
