I've shifted to laptop-only recommendations for my parents. They use them more AND they bring them when they visit, so I get to update/fix them.

I guess those that need another Acer Refurb that doesn't have the great specs of this i5-11th gen, might be interested.
If you got the i5-11th gen in this thread, and you do decide to buy the i3-10 gen model, maybe you could do a real world comparision for us.
199 dollars is attractive price for i3-10th gen, right?
Are you going to keep the i5 for yourself and the i3 for your family member?
i5 has more options for you, and the i3 is great for more casual PC user.

I'm actually going to do the same thing I did with the first unit that was defective, reload a fresh Windows 10 to get rid of the bloatware, make it 1 drive partition instead of 2 (less confusion for a non-tech savvy user) make sure the BIOS is updated, etc.
For me personally, I'm a power user, I need i7's or better, even my older units are faster than this thing is. The family member that's getting this thing will be a HUGE upgrade for them, will probably be doing their data migration this weekend.

Someone made a post about their audio issues in the Acer forums: https://community.acer.
They were kind of a jerk and only said there's a registry key you have to change but left out the details, also mentioned the answer is on docs.microsoft com, but I dug around in there a bit myself and couldn't find any answers. If someone knows what's involved, please post it here, it'll help all of us.

That thread started last year, I would assume ACER has new drivers for it a year latter (maybe not).
The other thing is I haven't used the on board audio ports on any PC for maybe 5 or 10 years now. I use bluetooth speakers/headphones/ or HDTV speakers (since it has 2 hdmi ports. This i5 doesn't have those keyboard/mouse round ports (thankfully), and I'm sure you don't use those ports either.
Bluetooth 5 is on this device, I use mostly echo show 5/8 as audio or headphones for sound, and usb microphone. With echo dots you can get stereo if you have matching devices, with advanced sound options. I have all types of bluetooth speakers/headphones, did a search a few years ago.
Problem with audio jacks is you have to be so close to PC, and I use the same PC in multiple rooms with switcher. I am not anchored to PC using the audio ports on PC.
Since you are gift-ing the PC, I know you want everything working properly, hope you find the fix for it if the person does use the on board audio ports.
p.s. I just bought the rx-6400 graphics card and should get it tomorrow, I'll post the UserBenchmark results comparing without graphics card and with graphics card. Should be interesting.
What is your MAIN PC, ram, specs, graphics card, etc ... is it for gaming or just production editing stuff?
It is nice to see you in these i5 and i3 Acer threads. Peace

How much was the video card?
Now Prime Day is in about 2 weeks, so you might want to see if any good deals on this card then, unless you got promo code like I did.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Y2JW...ct_de
p.s. This is the PERFECT card for the i5-11th gen! Because this i5 is pci 4th gen! Double the speed of pci 3rd gen. the i5-11th gen Acer needs a LOW PROFILE card, plus a card that doesn't use much power (55 watts for the rx-6400) , since our power-supply is 300 watts.

Oh, and just for the heck of it I tried Linux (Ubuntu, more specifically) on this thing, no audio dropout issues, so it's not bad hardware. The first i5 system I had (with the bad memory slot) had the exact same problem, too.
My (personal) main PC blows this thing out of the water, but I'm not giving that system to anyone
The "upgrade" really wasn't for the most part I don't see a speed difference. This computer is snappy enough I don't have any regrets or complaints I did poke around a bit and installed a 1tb drive that I had plus I ordered a 8gb memory stick that will be here on Wednesday at this point I should be done with the upgrades. I would install a video card but I don't game so for office purposes this will be fine.
Noise: I'm very sensitive to noise, during the setup it was louder than I would like my wife even commented how loud it was but now it's whisper quite I can't tell it's on.

If noise is a factor to you, look back in this thread for the Cooler Master fan people have recommended, I changed it on the one I have here for my family member and it definitely makes a difference.

AMD Radeon RX 6400 Review
RDNA2 in a Tiny Low-Power Package
https://www.techspot.co
In a way, the RX 6400 is quite unique. This low-powered GPU doesn't require external power, consumes less than 75 watts, and so it can received all of its power from the PCI Express slot. Moreover, AMD has branded this model with a total board power rating of just 53 watts, meaning it should use even less power than the GeForce GTX 1650.
Rather, let's talk about who the RX 6400 might appeal to. As a low profile single-slot graphics card that doesn't require external power, the RX 6400 can be thrown in anything with a PCIe x16 slot.
The RX 6400 has inherited all the shortcomings that plagued the 6500 XT: we're still looking at a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, no hardware encoding, and no AV1 decode. Then to add insult to injury, AMD has locked out overclocking, so you can't even squeeze out a little extra performance.
In other words, unless you have a small form factor 11th or 12th-gen Intel PC that supports PCIe 4.0 or an AM4 small form factor PC with a PCIe 4.0 enabled CPU and motherboard, the RX 6400 makes no sense. In our opinion, the RX 6400 can only make sense for a PCIe 4.0 system that's limited to a low profile graphics card.
It is the lack of hardware encoding and no AV1 decode, which is codec that is taking over YouTube and other sights. I want both gaming card and hardware encoding/decoding card, which many other cards can do.
