The main hangup with Allegiant is just the low volume — a canceled or missed flight can easily add days, not hours, to your flight. That makes nonrefubdable lodging and car rental bookings sketchy.
Just flew allegiant air a few weeks ago. Awful flight times, every thing is a la carte. A lady sneezed and asked the flight attendant for a napkin — the attendant charged her $2 for the Kleenex and $1 for disposal!
(That's a joke.)
In all seriousness: flight was fine, perfect for a quick trip, especially people who don't need to carry much with them.
I've been flying Allegiant a lot recently, namely LA to Omaha and vice versa. I truly have no real complaints. You pay for everything, but get incredible deals for the flight. I usually just need a backpack anyway and bring my own snacks and drinks. No issue at all. Flights are a lot more bearable than ones on Spirit that I've taken. Seems more like SW than anything else, just obviously minus the freebies

Since there seem to be only a couple flights a week to some places, how often are cancelled flights? If there are flights on Wed and Sat I don't see how I can manage any cancellation..

You can usually push them to get a flight on a competitor, but with some of Allegiant's routes that might be tough (eg, 3 separate legs on another carrier). Plus Allegiant hires a lot of temp staff with questionable customer service dedication. That's the tradeoff.
Personally, I'm worried enough when I'm on the last flight of the day, so this is a little outside my risk appetite unless I'm traveling solo and very flexible.

I have flown Allegiant dozens of times and have never had one canceled. I can't even think of a delayed flight. They usually fly into smaller airports, so it's super easy as far as check in and leaving.
But, if you have to check a bag, you'll pay almost more than the price of a ticket.

Now I have to decide if I want to go to LA for a few days just for kicks and giggles.
