According to this website (https://tengtoolsusa.co
"The ball end makes it easier to slide the key into the receiving slot.
It allows you to reach at an offset 30 degree angle so that you can feel your way to the needed position much faster - great for blind or difficult areas to reach or if the bolt or screw is close to an obstruction on one side."
But, if you can't get directly straight onto the bolt or screw, then you might need to resort to a ball end which allows you to stick it in at a bit of an angle.
Unless I know that something's not going to be really tight, I avoid using a ball end unless it is the only available option.

I'm not sure about this business of the ball end making it easier to slide into the slot (hehe), but I can say that the ability to rotate the wrench a few degrees in any direction can be worth its weight in gold for some projects.

These and some other closeout tools were $1/set in store. You may still find some.
None left around me, but here is a Brickseek [brickseek.com] link to check inventory.
