This will surely be a revelation.
Rtings says it's fine but nothing special. Okay by me at $150 and our other TCL units have been excellent.

Still $150 @ Target.
Says out of stock at target
I ordered from Target for pickup in store. I will pick up this evening - and share some thoughts. Agree - all subjective...
Wish i would have gotten 2 now... ah well.
For $150 it's exactly what I'd expect. The interface is a bit slower than my Series 6 TCL, but other than that will work great for a bedroom TV. My LG OLED is my main TV, so this just needed to be cheap and easy to use.
Like that the remote came with actually useful shortcut buttons. Netflix, Disney, Apple TV+, and Hulu. I have 3 out of the 4… so not bad.

I have 4 2019-era TCLs between my house and the in-laws and they're all working fine even though we all watch more TV than we probably should (I blame the Pandemic).
The Roku interface is flexible and the free channels are nice but no TV OS is going to be better than a dedicated streaming device obviously so go buy one if a buttery smooth experience is important to you. The Roku OS can do a lot and is good enough for basic usage, plus it has niceties like automatic channel guide for OTA using an antenna, which is handy for luddites or cheap cord-cutters.
It's 40" and I couldn't care less that it's not 4k at that size. Partially because that's not large enough to notice and partially because a $150 40" TV is unlikely to be anyone's primary viewing device who would even be able to tell the difference (or care).
You can hate TCLs with anecdotal evidence but Rtings says this is mostly fine, especially at this price.
Like everything else, buy the right thing for your specific situation.
The TV arrived from Amazon in 2 days and the package isn't banged up at all. So add that to the anecdotal tally FWIW.
Thanks again OP!
Is the sound nice? Been watching these pop up at different targets around me each day and gone in a day.
Its loud and clear... meets expectations. Not going to punch you with bass - but sounds as I would expect a TV to sound. If anything - better than I thought it would at this price for sure. So i guess thats exceeded expectations? Great deal. If you are in the market for something this size... like Roku... can live without 4k... I think you will be surprised.
