I'm definitely seeing how some marketing people are genius. You basically sell nothing (digital goods) for something and further almost guarantee lock-in ticket sale for unreleased movie which may or may not be terrible.

as a physical media collector i was pretty resistant to "owning" digital copies for a long time, but given that i'm stacking with "free" fandango vip+ credits i've gotten from using amc's a-list (which i definitely get more than the monthly cost in value out of, as i see at least one premium-format non-matinée movie each month, which recoups/covers the cost), the out of pocket cost is very minimal. the only reason i get multiples is so my wife and/or friends can come to, and i'll buy their advance tickets and get all the points.
at the very worst, if reviews come out and it sucks, i can always exchange the ticket at the theater for something else, or a readmit pass.
