Unless your workload really benefits from having 14 cores I don't see any reason to get the 2022 model. The new 3070ti will perform slightly worse and the 3080ti will barely be better than the 3080. With intel you'll get way worse battery life despite having a large battery with the new system. Now with the 2022 you can't have the combination of amd processor with nvidia gpu. Although the 6800m is still great it sits between a 3070 and 3080 in terms of performance leaning closer to the 3080.
In terms of gaming you are unlikely to see any worthwhile gains compared to the previous gen. I had the new zephyrus m16 12900h and 3070ti(100 watt even though they claimed 120watts) and the performance was disappointing.
I would rather get the ryzen 5900 hx and 3080 16 gb with full 165 watts over anything available right now and at $1800 it's a great bargain.
This should be hitting front page
What a steal. Walmart return is also painless. Giving this a try to see if the Legion 7 chassis is worth the premium over the 5 Pro.

Comes down to if he's graduating high school or college. If high school, then he may want to use the laptop for school and the Costco one is much more portable. This legion 7 from Walmart is heavy.
Mind sharing in what ways you like it over the '22 M16? I personally noticed that when you're running that '22 M16 (w/3070ti) in silent mode, performance is reduced significantly (even the high refresh rate was reduced to 60hz). More than I recall being the case with '21 Zephyrus G15.
I'm betting the build quality is even better than '22 M16, albeit at the penalty of being heavier. How do you find the keyboard in comparison? How well does it do in silent mode in comparison?
Thanks!
Silent mode is pretty quiet. I dont think it's completely fanless but you don't hear the fans ramping up if your just doing very light work.
You can reduce the refresh rate manually in the legion 7 just an extra step but the shortcut is quick.
I prefer the build quality of the Legion 7 over zephyrus m16. I really hate the rubberized texture of the zephyrus M16. The Legion 7 finish is very fingerprint magnet resistant. Size wise I don't feel like the zephyrus m16 is that much smaller or more portable by any significant margin. the Zephyrus m16 is slightly lighter but once again not that noticeable to me. Biggest difference is the charging brick being bigger on the legion 7 but honestly I have a Gan 100 watt charger I bring for portability and usually leave the 300 watt brick home.
Keyboard isn't bad on the legion 7. I think I prefer the zephyrus m16 as I dont really use the numpad at all. Only thing I really dislike is the touchpad being offset to the left.

Would you mind sharing what kind of GAN 100W you are using with your Legion 7?
Is anyone else finding that this gets really hot on the center bottom area? I had the 7i/3070 version briefly and don't remember it getting super hot even during gaming. This one seems to be a little warmer for general tasks then pretty hot after only a few mins of gaming on the bottom
Couple months ago I purchased a refurbished (new) 7i from microcenter.. paid 1400 for the 11800h and 140w 3070. From my understanding and what I've gathered through my own research this is a pretty great deal.
Would I pay the extra 400 for the 3080? personally no. But you will be hard pressed to find these specs in a chassis like the 7i. You can literally lay this thing on the floor and run the computer at max without ever touching 80° c.
No I don't do this I just wanted to see if it actually dissipated heat as well as the internet said, and it does.
Battery life sucks but I don't know who expects a laptop that comes with a 300w power supply to last for more than a few hours anyways.
Got mine, very impressed. Walmart shipped it and arrived next day for me.
Just a reminder, the temps are much better if you leave the lid open.
G-sync on external monitor worked with USB-C to Displayport with left USB-C port.
I don't like having the numpad and the offset trackpad, but I mostly will likely use an external keyboard and mouse.

Does it still sound like a jet plane when gaming though regardless? I had a L7 with a 3070 and the fans were so loud, I couldn't hear anything but them. I did play with the laptop docked though and the lid closed.

I use the razer one, I typically find razer products extremely overpriced and usually not worth it but it's worked quite well with a nice form factor.

Not him but there is a 100W USB-C PD deal from monoprice that should work nicely. Search for it on slickdeals. It's like $33.

Aesthetics aside, this laptop is a lot better than the G15.
