A completely functional Chromebook with an Intel CPU that facilitates the Linux sandbox and should have plenty of horsepower for operating Android apps (though lacking a touchscreen does make that experience trickier depending upon the application). I'd actually been using an N3150-equipped Chromebook as a daily driver for the kids up through last year (the Acer R11) and I do power it up every so often as of late, though mostly just to pull down the latest update (I'm hopeful that a fully supported Lacros [aboutchromebooks.com] browser will make it to the R11 Chromebook before expiration).

However, the Asus Chromebook in this deal has been pretty regularly at $99 for the past year for one key reason: the AUE date is June 2024. The good news is that it isn't expired (a not uncommon reason you see Intel Chromebooks at the $99 price point). The bad news is that this is insanely short even in this price range. Target just had an arguably better $100 Chromebook deal with an AUE date in June 2027.

The suspiciously short AUE date of this Chromebook has made me wonder whether it was stuck in some overlong development cycle that meant it's AUE date was tied to a much older AUE policy than current devices. One of the giveaways suggesting this is the much older CPU platform.

You're not buying anything explicitly broken, but know that you're not getting anything near a slick deal here.

Good luck!

I know two persons who bought a Chromebook because of the cheap price, not knowing what it is and expecting a Windows laptop.

I've got it a week ago for this price. Very nice small Chromebook. The only complaint is that the screen can't be opened all the way to make it flat with keyboard. With that all Chromebooks are pretty much the same these days. Light and fast enough for anything they run

Well. Here's a recent experience of mine. I got the Asus 17" one with the better processor. But it struggles with opening most Linux apps, also music (web app/play store) stutters in the background when I refresh web pages. I'm not sure if that's because it drives a much larger monitor but right now, I'm trying to get rid of it. Not sure this weaker processor is a good recommendation under any condition.

Do you know if it plays Rocket Leauge Sideswipe at 60fps on low settings? My Lenovo Chromebook Tablet does, but it has all kinds of random stutters.

The AUE short date is because it only has 16GB when most Chromebooks have at least 32GB, it won't be possible to receive future updates since it will need more storage.
