The MSI 3080 w/12GB vrams are on sale right now on NEWEGG for $820 after MIR.

Or This EVGA 3090 w/24GB vrams for $1164 w/ associate code 31L0NVDI68NVSB4 This a going to be tough.

Quote from Quaro :
If you are just gaming, stick with the 12GB 3000 series 3080 and 3080 Ti. But if you need the 3090 w/24GB for creative or scientific work or AI this is an insane deal, and you probably aren't overclocking, so the hot memory on the back of the card isn't a big deal.

So it is a compare between 3080 that possibly a returned mine card which exercised not that much and 3090 that is definitely a mine card has been tortured for a considerable longer time and possibly just completed a larger surgery to replace some parts
Forgive me if I missed something, but the 3080 deal is new, yeah? Not refurb/"B-Stock" like this for the 3090. So a 3 year vs 1 year warranty, but obviously a major difference in terms of power assuming both are functioning properly.

Not definitely a mining card. Here are photos of the B-Stock 3090 that I received during the last deal at $1,399. Sealed retail box with small rip. It was a brand new card. Certainly YMMV, but it's not definitely a mining card.

Watch videos. Mining doesn't affect performance unless it's over 3 years 24/7 mining. As long as it's free of dust
Not saying it affects performance

Yup, it is only been like 8 months since this card release date (Sep. 24, 2021). At most, it is probably mining 24/7 for ~5 months. Plus, at that time most miners kinda stay away from this card due to the high MSRP and the number of dates they have to mine to break even if they brought this card.

Nope. They are mostly cards that had a power system failure gaming, or were warrantied for the power imbalance issue.
Yes, this guy is saying something that most of people dont know, and im 100% experience that with B-Stock. Try this if you buy B-stock, overclock your gpu over 200mhz or more you will see your system crash or not

Any GPU may crash if you overclock it 200MHz or more.

so, were those issues resolved on these "refurb" cards?

Maybe, maybe not. Last year some people went through several RMA cards. There was a special RMA put in place that gave people back Rev 1.0 cards. IMHO part of it was specific stresses put on cards by the nuances of people's setups and how their gaming loaded the card, but the cards are faulty. Not sure if the Rev 0.1 cards can be fixed to be highly reliable, but they are reliable in some setups under some loads. I've read numerous reports of repeated failure when gaming, and none of failing while rendering, mining etc. It's widely discussed on the evga forums.

Not sure you're agreeing with me or the guy I was responding to.

+205 on the core with a load will crash most Ampere cards, it may freeze the system or BSOD.

These cards are likely to be repaired Rev 0.1 power failure / power imbalance RMA cards - because that is where the bulk of cards returned to EVGA are coming from, per user reports on forums. Widely discussed online. Of course some could be packaging damage, or cards that failed out of the box, step-up, etc.

If they were 'ex mining' cards, where did they come from? EVGA's basement cryptomine??? If EVGA had a mining operation, it would use non-LHR 3070's and would still be running. LMAO

As I said on other thread, there is zero evidence of GDDR6X failures from mining or anything else.

is there a way to find out how long it's been used for, like uptime hours? hard drives give that info, GPUs should build that in too. that way we know if it's been used for mining (24x7 uptime).

i'd stay away from ex-mining cards. you're buying a product that's been abused and may fail out of warranty at any time.
